Hello everyone! Dear Hive community! I hope you are doing well. Today I want to talk about a movie that has become one of my favorites over time, I watched it a few years ago and wow, it is amazing! It is one of those movies that just stays with you, you know what I mean? I am talking about About Time.. if you haven’t seen it, seriously, you are missing out, at first glance, it might seem like just another romantic comedy—and yes, it has its fair share of sweet and funny moments—but it is so much more than that.. this movie really makes you stop and reflect on life and all those little things we often overlook. Our time-traveling protagonist can only go back to moments he remembers, and each change has consequences, some small and some more complex that alter his life. It is such a simple setup, but it is used in a very effective way to explore themes like love, family, and the decisions that end up shaping our lives.. one of the things that is really surprising about this story is how it balances all of its tones and genres without feeling too saturated.
It’s a fun movie, genuinely funny especially with Tim’s clumsy attempts to navigate the waters of love and his father played by Bill Nighy who by the way steals every scene he’s in.. their chemistry is great.. But it’s also a deeply romantic story, the relationship that forms between Tim and Mary feels very real and grounded even with all the time travel shenanigans, and then there’s the drama, it’s the kind that takes you by surprise and leaves you reflecting or maybe crying a little in your seat.. all of that together with the little fantasy element makes the whole thing feel both believable and different. It’s like a big soup that has a little bit of everything and ends up being super delicious, lol.. I love that this works.

Hoy quiero hablarles de una película que se ha convertido en una de mis favoritas con el tiempo, la vi hace algunos años y wow, es increíble! Es de esas películas que simplemente se quedan contigo, ¿me entienden? Estoy hablando de About Time.. si no la han visto, en serio, se están perdiendo de algo, a simple vista, podría parecer solo otra comedia romántica—y sí, tiene su buena dosis de momentos dulces y divertidos—pero es mucho más que eso.. esta película realmente te hace detenerte y reflexionar sobre la vida y todas esas pequeñas cosas que a menudo pasamos por alto. Nuestro protagonista viajero del tiempo solo puede regresar a momentos que recuerda, y cada cambio tiene consecuencias, algunas pequeñas y otras más complejas que alteran su vida. Es una configuración tan simple, pero se usa de una manera muy efectiva para explorar temas como el amor, la familia y las decisiones que terminan moldeando nuestras vidas.. una de las cosas que realmente sorprenden de esta historia es cómo equilibra todos sus tonos y géneros sin sentirse demasiado saturada.
Es una película divertida, genuinamente divertida, especialmente con los intentos torpes de Tim por navegar en las aguas del amor y su padre interpretado por Bill Nighy, quien por cierto roba cada escena en la que aparece.. su química es genial.. Pero también es una historia profundamente romántica, la relación que se forma entre Tim y Mary se siente muy real y con los pies en la tierra, incluso con todas las travesuras del viaje en el tiempo, y luego está el drama, es del tipo que te toma por sorpresa y te deja reflexionando o tal vez llorando un poco en tu asiento.. todo eso junto al pequeño elemento de fantasía hace que todo se sienta a la vez creíble y diferente. Es como una gran sopa que tiene de todo un poco y termina siendo súper deliciosa, jajaja.. me encanta que esto funcione.
Now, speaking a bit about the characters, I have to obviously mention Rachel McAdams’ performance as Mary… she is just… perfect, she is charming and relatable in a way that makes you understand exactly why Tim would go to such lengths to win her over… their meeting in a completely dark diner is one of the most unique and memorable I’ve seen in a rom-com, it’s so sweet and quirky, and it sets the tone for their entire relationship afterwards. One of the things I loved most about this movie is how it shows that love isn’t all about grand gestures or absolute perfection, but that it’s about the little moments, the inside jokes, the shared glances, the flirtatious laughs, the messy, imperfect, and beautiful reality of everything that comes with loving someone… there’s one scene in particular where a certain wedding is completely ruined by rain, and instead of these characters exploding in anger, they just accept what they can’t control, and they do it in such a tender way.
It's a reminder that the little ideal moments in life are often the ones you don't plan for.. but here's the thing about About Time.. it's not just a love story, it's also about family, and this is where I really connect. The relationship between Timmy and his father is the heart of the film, and boy can it hit you hard.. without giving too much away, their scenes together are some of the most moving I've seen, there's a quiet, unexplainable wisdom in the way this father teaches his son to use his gift, not to chase perfection but to appreciate the life he already has.. it's a very powerful message, and it's delivered with such warmth and sincerity. There’s something universal about this father-son relationship that makes you think a lot about your own family ties, and how fleeting time with your loved ones can be.
I think this movie focuses on teaching you the importance of appreciating what you have, living in the moment, and embracing all the imperfection. There’s a recurring theme of nostalgia versus the presence of learning, but it teaches how it’s necessary to let go of the past and focus on the present. It’s funny how Tim learns that even with all the time travel in the world, you can’t make someone connect with you in a way that they don’t. It teaches us that life is a mess, and that’s just what makes it beautiful. It’s a message that feels very relevant in an age where we’re constantly searching for perfection on social media or trying to avoid mistakes at all costs. This shouldn’t be the case, everyone should live their life their own way and be completely satisfied with it.
Ahora, hablando un poco de los personajes, tengo que mencionar obviamente a la actuación de Rachel McAdams como Mary.. ella es simplemente.. perfecta, es encantadora y relatable de una manera que te hace entender exactamente por qué Tim haría tanto por conquistarla.. su encuentro en un restaurante completamente oscuro es uno de los más únicos y memorables que he visto en una comedia romántica, es tan dulce y peculiar, y a la vez establece el tono para toda su relación posterior. Una de las cosas que más me encantó de esta película es como muestra que el amor no se trata solo de gestos grandiosos o perfección absoluta, sino que se trata de pequeños momentos, las bromas internas, las miradas compartidas, las risas coquetas, la realidad desordenada, imperfecta y hermosa de todo lo que conlleva querer a alguien.. hay una escena en particular en la que cierta boda se arruina completamente por la lluvia, y en lugar de que estos personajes estallen de ira, simplemente aceptan lo que no pueden controlar, y lo hacen de una forma tan tierna.
Es un recordatorio de que los pequeños momentos ideales de la vida a menudo son los que no planeas.. pero aquí está la cosa con About Time.. no es solo una historia de amor, también trata sobre la familia, y aquí es donde realmente conecto conmigo. La relación entre Timmy y su padre es el corazón de la película, y vaya que puede golpearte fuerte.. sin revelar demasiado, sus escenas juntos son algunas de las más conmovedoras que he visto, hay cierta sabiduría tranquila e inexplicable en la forma en la que este padre enseña a usar su don a su hijo, no para perseguir la perfección sino para apreciar la vida que él ya tiene.. es un mensaje muy poderoso, y se entrega con mucha calidez y sinceridad. Hay algo universal en esta relación padre-hijo que te hace reflexionar mucho sobre tus propios lazos familiares, y efímero que puede ser el tiempo con tus seres queridos..
Creo que esta película se enfoca en enseñarte lo importante de apreciar lo que tienes, vivir en el momento y aceptar toda la imperfección.. hay un tema recurrente de nostalgia frente a la presencia de aprender, pero se enseña a cómo es necesario dejar ir al pasado y centrarse en el presente, es curioso como Tim aprende que incluso con todo el viaje en el tiempo del mundo, no puedes hacer que alguien conecte contigo de una forma en la que no lo hace.. nos enseña que la vida es un desastre, y eso es justo lo que la hace hermosa. Es un mensaje que se siente muy relevante en una época en la que constantemente buscamos perfección en las redes sociales o intentamos evitar errores a toda costa.. esto no tendría que ser así, cada quien debería vivir su vida a su manera y estar completamente satisfecho con ello.
The message this movie has about living each day as if it were your last really resonated with me. This sounds cliché, but the way it’s presented here feels so fresh and genuine. There’s a montage where Tim starts living ordinary days, paying attention to all the little joys he overlooked the first time around. And it’s such a simple idea, but it’s incredibly moving. How often do we rush through life worrying about things that wouldn’t matter in a week, let alone a year? This movie made me want to slow down and savor all the little things my life has to offer. The sound of rain, the warmth of a hug, it made me think about how we often take the most important things for granted while worrying about trivialities.
Oh, and obviously the soundtrack has to be mentioned… I thought it was absolutely brilliant, every song seems perfectly chosen to enhance the mood of the scene, there’s one specific track that plays during the wedding sequence that gave me chills. And wow, I think the cinematography is incredible too. This film has a soft quality to it, with a colour palette that is somehow warm and cool at the same time, it’s like the visual equivalent of a cosy blanket on a rainy day, plus the locations from the beaches to the cozy interiors add an extra layer of charm that really makes you want to be there.
El mensaje que tiene esta película sobre vivir cada día como si fuera el último realmente resonó en mí.. esto suena cliché, pero la forma en la que se presenta aquí se siente tan fresca y genuina..hay un montaje en el cual Tim comienza a vivir días ordinarios, prestando atención a todas las pequeñas alegrías que pasó por alto la primera vez.. y es una idea tan simple, pero es increíblemente conmovedora. ¿Qué tan a menudo nos apresuramos por la vida preocupándonos por cosas que no importarían en una semana, y mucho menos en un año? Esta película me hizo querer frenar y saborear todas las pequeñas cosas que mi vida tiene para ofrecerme.. el sonido de la lluvia, el calor de un abrazo, me hizo pensar en cómo a menudo damos por sentadas las cosas más importantes mientras nos preocupamos por trivialidades.
Ah, y obviamente hay que mencionar la banda sonora.. me pareció absolutamente brillante, cada canción parece perfectamente elegida para mejorar el estado de ánimo de la escena, hay una pista en específico que suena durante la secuencia de la boda que me dio escalofríos.. Y wow, la cinematografía me parece increíble también.. esta película tiene una calidad suave, con una paleta de colores que es de alguna manera cálida y fría al mismo tiempo, es como el equivalente visual de una manta acogedora en un día lluvioso, además, las locaciones desde las playas hasta los interiores acogedores añaden una capa extra de encanto que realmente hace que quieras estar allí.
Now, to be honest—the whole time travel thing doesn't make much sense if you're a die-hard sci-fi fan. But honestly? That's not the point.. the movie isn't about the mechanics of time travel; it's about what it means to appreciate the life you have. And that's what makes it so special. Sure, there are a few moments where the pace gets a little slow, and yes, it gets a little sentimental at times. But those are minor details compared to how much heart this movie has.
What really stands out for me is how real the characters feel.. the relationships, especially between the protagonist and his dad, are so genuine. You laugh with them, you cry with them, and by the end, you feel like you've been on this journey right along with them. Speaking of crying—yes, I definitely shed a few tears. But in the best way! It's the kind of movie that leaves you feeling warm and hopeful, like life is a mess but still beautiful.
I give it a strong rating of 9.5/10.. although it’s not perfect, it’s extremely great.. and it’s precisely the imperfections of life that make this one so special, just like this movie. Ahora, siendo sincero—todo el asunto de los viajes en el tiempo no tiene mucho sentido si eres un fanático acérrimo de la ciencia ficción. Pero, ¿honestamente? Ese no es el punto.. la película no trata sobre los mecanismos de los viajes en el tiempo; trata sobre lo que significa apreciar la vida que tienes. Y eso es lo que la hace tan especial. Claro, hay algunos momentos en los que el ritmo se vuelve un poco lento, y sí, a veces se pone algo sentimental. Pero esos son detalles mínimos comparados con la cantidad de corazón que tiene esta película.
Lo que realmente destaca para mí es lo reales que se sienten los personajes.. las relaciones, especialmente entre el protagonista y su papá, son tan genuinas. Te ríes con ellos, lloras con ellos, y al final, sientes que has estado en este viaje junto a ellos. Hablando de llorar—sí, definitivamente se me escaparon unas lágrimas. ¡Pero de la mejor manera! Es el tipo de película que te deja sintiéndote cálido y esperanzado, como si la vida fuera un desastre pero aún así hermosa.
Yo lo doy una fuerte calificación de 9.5/10.. aunque no es perfecta, sí es extremadamente genial.. y justamente las imperfecciones de la vida son lo que hacen que esta sea tan especial, justo como esta película. Y bueno, lo único que podemos hacer es disfrutar del viaje y tratar de abrazar cada momento extraordinario de nuestras vidas ordinarias.
