Hello to all fans of good stories, I hope you are feeling great today, this time I want to share with you all a new review, this time of the movie The Two Popes. It's a movie that I found interesting, and I'll tell you why... it certainly caught me from the beginning and made me see things from a completely new perspective, I think I'm sure many of you will enjoy it, haha. First, Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins did amazing, these two absolute legends show all their acting skills in this story, Pryce, as Pope Francis, is as if he was born for the role... somehow he manages to channel all that warmth and humanity of the Latin American culture, that is very characteristic, despite not being Latin American, I felt that he transmitted a lot of that warmth and kindness.
On the other hand, Hopkins, as Pope Benedict, was also incredible, I would say it is his best performance in decades, he is so convincing that sometimes I forgot I was watching a movie and not the real popes. The chemistry between them is very good, you can feel all the tension at times, the respect and even the subtle humor they bring to their interactions... it really is like watching a master class in acting.
Hola a todos fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que hoy se encuentren súper bien, en esta ocasión quiero compartir con todos ustedes una nueva reseña, esta vez de la película The Two Popes. Es una película que me pareció interesante, y ya les diré por qué.. sin duda me atrapó desde el inicio y me hizo ver las cosas de una perspectiva completamente nueva, creo que seguro muchos de ustedes la disfrutarán, jaja. Primero, Jonathan Pryce y Anthony Hopkins lo hicieron increíble, estas dos leyendas absolutas demuestran toda su capacidad actoral en esta historia, Pryce, como el Papa Francisco, es como si hubiera nacido para el papel.. de alguna manera logra canalizar toda esa calidez y humanidad de la cultura latinoamericana, eso que es muy característico, a pesar de no ser latinoamericano, yo sentí que transmitió mucho esa cordialidad y amabilidad.
Por otro lado, Hopkins, como el Papa Benedicto, me pareció también increíble, diría que es su mejor actuación en décadas, es tan convincente que a veces olvidaba que estaba viendo una película y no a los papas reales. La química entre ellos es muy buena, se siente toda la tensión en algunas ocasiones, el respeto e incluso el humor sutil que aportan a sus interacciones.. realmente es como ver una clase magistral de actuación.
This movie tackles very deep issues...the clash between conservative and liberal ideologies, the role of the church in today's world, and even somewhat more controversial topics like homosexuality and the church's handling of abuse scandals, but what I really loved about this movie was how human these two characters feel. They are not just symbols of their respective beliefs, they are real people with doubts, regrets and a genuine desire to do the right thing, even if they don't understand other perspectives very well at times...there is a scene where they are simply sitting watching a soccer game and for a moment they are not popes, they are two older men enjoying a simple pleasure, this scene not only humanizes the characters, but also shows how, despite their ideological differences, they share a common passion that connects them on a much more personal and everyday level.
It's a mild reminder that, at the end of the day, we all share all those little joys that transcend our propositions, positions or beliefs, moments like that make the film so relatable, even if you're not a religious person, as is my case. And just talking about relatable, the cinematography is incredible... my total respects to Cesar Charlone for making every shot a work of art, whether showing all that grandeur of the Vatican or the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires... I found the visuals stunning and the music perfect, it's an incredible mix of traditional church hymns with much more modern and upbeat tunes that reflect the duality of the story, it's as if the soundtrack has its own dialogue, just like the characters... it tries to express itself in a way that it can represent itself in a unique way.
La película toca algunos temas muy profundos... el conflicto entre las ideologías conservadora y liberal, el papel de la Iglesia en el mundo moderno e incluso algunos temas más controvertidos como la homosexualidad y el manejo de los escándalos de abuso por parte de la Iglesia. Pero lo que realmente me gustó fue lo humanos que se mostraron estos dos personajes en la película. No son sólo símbolos de sus respectivas creencias, también son personas con dudas, arrepentimientos y un deseo genuino de hacer lo correcto, incluso si a veces no entienden del todo otros puntos de vista, hay momento en el que ya no son solo papas, por ejemplo viendo un partido de futbol, son solo dos ancianos disfrutando de placeres sencillos, una escena que no sólo humaniza a los personajes sino que demuestra que, a pesar de sus diferencias ideológicas, están unidos por una pasión común que los une en un nivel personal y cotidiano.
Nos recuerda suavemente que al final del día todos compartimos pequeñas alegrías que trascienden nuestras creencias, momentos como estos son los que hacen que esta película sea tan atractiva, incluso si no eres una persona religiosa como yo, la historia y la cinematografía por sí sola es increíble, y por eso vale la pena. Tengo un respeto total por César Chaloni, que convierte cada imagen en una obra de arte, ya sea que muestre la grandeza del Vaticano o las movidas calles de Buenos Aires, la música es perfecta, es una mezcla maravillosa de humanidad, y por eso impacta tanto.
I have to admit that I went into this movie with some skepticism...either I knew what I was going to encounter or if I was going to be captivated. I mean, how interesting can a story about two popes be? But wow, I was so wrong, the dialogues here are sharp and surprisingly funny at times...the debates between Benedict and Francis are very interesting, many times I found myself leaning forward, hanging on every word...they are not just talking about theology, they are grappling with universal themes like faith, change, and most of all the purpose of life, honestly, this movie made me reflect on certain beliefs of my own and how I deal with the changes life gives me.
Something I really appreciated is how the film doesn't avoid the flaws of its characters or the institution they represent, it acknowledges the controversies of the church without turning the film into an attack.. achieving a perfect balance thanks to a script that approaches the issues with a lot of sensitivity and direction that dresses simplistic judgments, this allows the characters and their dilemmas to be portrayed in a complex, nuanced and balanced way.. they are more interested in exploring how these two men so different in their views find common ground. They present us with a story where even in a divided world, dialogue and understanding is still possible, as long as both sides are willing to understand the other...speaking a little more clearly, this film is not just about religion or the Catholic church, it's about humanity itself, it's about how we all deal with our past, our mistakes and our hopes for the future...whether you are a believer or not, there is something deeply universal about this story, and I think that's just what makes it so impactful.
Tengo que admitir que entré a esta película con algo de escepticismo.. .o sabía con lo que me iba a encontrar o si me iba a cautivar. Quiero decir, ¿qué tan interesante puede ser una historia sobre dos papas? Pero wow, estaba muy equivocado, los diálogos aquí son afilados y sorprendentemente divertidos a veces.. los debates entre Benedicto y Francisco son muy interesantes, muchas veces me encontré inclinándome hacia adelante, pendiente de cada palabra.. no solo hablan de teología, sino que están lidiando con temas universales como la fe, el cambio, y sobre todo el propósito de la vida, honestamente, esta película me hizo reflexionar sobre ciertas creencias propias y cómo yo enfrento los cambios que me da la vida.
Algo que realmente aprecié es cómo la película no evita las fallas de sus personajes o la institución que representan, reconoce las controversias de la iglesia sin convertir la película en un ataque.. logrando un equilibrio perfecto gracias a un guión que aborda los temas con mucha sensibilidad y una dirección que vista los juicios simplistas, esto permite que los personajes y sus dilemas se representen de manera compleja, matizada y equilibrada.. se interesan más en explorar cómo estos dos hombres tan diferentes en sus puntos de vista encuentran un terreno común. Nos presentan una historia donde incluso en un mundo dividido, el diálogo y la comprensión siguen siendo posibles, siempre y cuando ambas partes estén dispuestas a entender a la otra.. hablando un poco más claro, esta película no es solamente sobre religión o sobre la iglesia católica, es sobre la humanidad en sí, se trata de cómo todos lidiamos con nuestro pasado, nuestros errores y nuestras esperanzas por el futuro.. ya seas creyente o no, hay algo profundamente universal en esta historia, y creo que es justo eso lo que la hace tan impactante.
If I had to say something I didn’t like, I’d say that the pace gets a little slower than usual in the middle and drags a little towards the end. There’s a part that delves into Pope Francis’ past during the dictatorship in Argentina, and while it’s important and interesting, it feels a little dragged out, to a certain extent. But still, I have to say that I liked how they added a lot of layers to his character; that can really help to understand why he is the way he is, so I can’t complain too much. By the end of the movie, I felt genuinely moved. There’s a feeling of hope and positivity that stays with you. It’s rare for a movie to tackle such heavy topics and still leave you with a positive feeling, but surprisingly, this movie manages to do that.
I give it a rating of 8.5/10. It's masterfully acted, I found it very thoughtful and surprisingly entertaining...plus, it has a good balance of humor and emotional moments, it's something that keeps you hooked. If some of you haven't seen it, I recommend it... it's great if you're looking for meaningful stories, if you have, let me know what you think. That would be all for today... Si tuviera que decir algo que no me gustó, diría que el ritmo se vuelve un poco más lento de lo habitual, a la mitad, y tirando un poco hacia el final.. hay una sección que se adentra en el pasado del Papa Francisco durante la dictadura en Argentina, y aunque es importante, se siente un poco extendida.. pero incluso entonces, debo decir que me gustó como añadieron muchas capas a su personaje, es algo que te ayuda mucho a entender por qué él es como es, así que es algo de lo que no podría quejarme demasiado. Al final de esta película, yo estaba genuinamente conmovido.. hay cierto sentido de esperanza y positividad que se queda contigo, es raro que una película aborde temas tan pesados y aun así te deja como una sensación positiva, pero sorprendentemente, esta película lo logra.
Yo doy una calificación de 8.5/10. Está magistralmente actuada, me pareció muy reflexiva y sorprendentemente entretenida.. además, tiene un buen equilibrio entre humor y momentos emotivos, es algo que te mantiene enganchado. Si algunos de ustedes no la han visto, se las recomiendo.. es ideal si están buscando historias significativas, yo si ya la vieron, cuéntenme sus opiniones. También creo que algo del mensaje espiritual de esta cinta y de las conversaciones entre los dos papas trasciende el catolicismo. Cualquiera sea la idea que uno tenga de dios, de la iglesia o la religión a la que uno pertenezca le puede sacar provecho a ciertas frases y preguntas que se hacen acá. Buena reseña, buena idea traer esta película a colación a propósito de Cónclave, nominada al Oscar.

I haven't seen it, but I saw a recommendation a while back. I like that in the middle part you talk about the difficulties of the church and what goes on inside. That's an aspect that was also highlighted by that person I read as well. I'm not Catholic, I don't really like these topics either. I think it would be difficult to see it.
