Hello everyone, I hope you are having a nice week. Remember the times when black lives were still very inferior to the whites even if we are still struggling with this in some areas, it has reduced. I watched a movie recently about how hard it was for the black people to survive and stay alive.
The movie "Marshall" is a 2017 Legal Drama directed by Reginald Hudlin about Thurgood Marshall, a very skilled NAACP lawyer who travels around the country defending people who he thinks has been wrongly accused of a crime because of their color.
Just as Mr Marshall returns to New York from his just concluded case, another case is handed over to him. He is sent to Bridgeport, Connecticut to help a man Joseph Spell who has been of raping and almost killing his female white employer, Eleanor Strubing.
This case has made the news as Mrs Strubing is a well respected and distinguished woman. In Bridgeport, Mr. Sam Friedman is tasked to assist Mr. Marshall against his will.
Before they go further to handle the case, Mr. Marshall and Mr. Friedman goes to see Mr. Spell in the detention cell, to make sure that he is innocent of the crime he is accused of because Mr Marshall wants to make sure it is purely because of his color that he is being accused and nothing else. Spells swore that he had never touched the woman before, after getting their reassurance, they left.
During the hearing, the Judge, Judge Foster who is well familiar with the prosecutor, allows Mr Marshall into the court but doesn't allow him say anything. With this development, Mr. Friedman is forced to take up this case.
Mr Friedman who is an Insurance defense attorney is very reluctant to take the case but Mr. Marshall assures him that as his council, he will guide through the whole proceedings. With that, Mr. Friedman agrees.
Because Mr Friedman agrees to defend a black man in court, he is seen as an enemy by his neighbors, friends, family and even his wife. Mr Friedman is deeply affected by this to the extent he is even attacked physically but still continues to defends Spell in court.
The story they are given is that Spell raped Strubing, tied her then put her in his car after that her, he drove to the reservoir, throw her over trying to drown her and started throwing stones at her.
With this, they go to investigate and during their investigation they discover a lot of loopholes and have a lot of questions. Like if Spell actually wanted to kill her why would he throw her in the still slow side instead of the rocky rough edge.
During the trial, Spell is offered money to drop the case and go for a plea but he rejects it and the trial goes on. A doctor is brought and testifies while giving proof that indeed Strubing did have signs of being reaped, had pieces of skin in her nails that belonged to a colored man and had bruises around her body.
Around this period, Mr Marshall and Mrs Marshall who were expecting a baby unfortunately lost it through miscarriage. At this point, Mr Marshall was devastated because he lost his child and because he wasn't there to comfort his wife.
Later on, Strubing is brought to testify and gives the same story, with this Mr Marshall and Mr Friedman found that Spell has not been truthful to them from the beginning so they go to confront him and he finally tells them the truth.
The next day, it's Spell's turn to testify and tells his version of the story well it turns out that Strubings husband has been maltreating her leaving bruises and marks on her body. One of the nights that her husband had not been around, Spell went in to meet her to ask for money that he owed a man but instead, Strubing wanted to have sex with so he consented.
After they had sexual intercourse, Strubing was terrified that someone would catch them so she asked Spell to drive her out of the house. While they were driving on the road, Spell was stopped by a policeman, Mrs Strubing who was afraid of being caught hid at the back of the car on the floor, the police asked for Spells credentials which he showed telling the police that the car was his employer's own then the police let him go.
When they reached the reservoir after the encounter with the police
Strubing forced Spell to stop the car, she started to panic that she may be pregnant and that she couldn't be pregnant with a colored child see this, Spell tried to calm her down but she ran out of the car and climbed the breach. Spell tried stopping her but then she jumped into the river on seeing this, he entered the car and drove off in panic.
Spell was asked why he didn't say this before and rather lied to them, why he didn't tell the first policeman that came to him as soon as he was asked. He told them that as a black man, if he ever said that he slept with a white woman like Strubing he would have been killed there on the spot for sleeping with someone that even they couldn't touch.
At the end of the day, the jury decided that Spell was not guilty and Strubing was doing all this for the fear of her husband finding out that she slept with another man and colored for that matter.
I really loved this move and the passion that was put into it, it showed that even though it was a tough time for the blacks, they still had the ability to pull through. This movie showed black strength and the challenges they faced.
I will recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't already watched it, I promise you would also love it and would like to hear your views on it too.

Antes de ir más lejos para manejar el caso, el Sr. Marshall y el Sr. Friedman va a ver al Sr. Deletree in the detention cell, to make sure that he is innocent of the crime he is accused of because Mr Marshall wants to make sure it is purely because of his color that he is being accused and nothing else.

Mr Friedman who is an Insurance defense attorney is very reluctant to take the case but Mr. Marshall le asegura que, como su consejo, guiará todo el proceso.

It's incredible to see people standing in for another. I'm glad the rate of apathy had greatly reduced , thanks to the effort of people like marshall who stood against such act.

I haven't seen this movie but I loved your review.
I love movies where people stand for themselves and overcome the challenges they face.
Great review.

Yeah, it's a great movie. Thanks for your reply.
This movie would be very interesting, I am thinking of feasting on it for the week.
Someone once said,"most of the people you see in prison are not guilty" I feel sorry for him, though his case looks so suspicious. Everyone would conclude that he was the one that murdered her because he was the last person with her before she committed suicide and driving away from the scene made it even worse because the police saw them together earlier on. Only God can help someone in that kind of situation.
These things are happening live in our world, Innocent people get accused for crimes they didn't commit and because they lack money and power, they end up being in jail.

Exactly, innocent people paying for a crime they did not commit but they were never seen together. When the police came to check the car she hid at the back and he didnt check inside the car so he didn't see her. Thanks for you reply, you would love the movie.
Oh.. then it is clear that their reason for jailing him was something else.... However I am happy it ended well
Yes, it was to save herself cause in the end she could not allow herself to drown. I am glad too, thanks for your reply.
