El otro día vi Code 8 Part II y aunque tiene algunos detalles que ya les comentaré me sorprendió que mi esposo que siempre se queda dormido en las películas esta si la vio completa, esta secuela sigue siendo en Lincoln City donde las personas con superpoderes son marginados cosa que es contraria en las películas de superhéroes, claro esto es más una película de ciencia ficción que quiere hacer una crítica hacia la brutalidad de la policía, el control de estas fuerzas y la corrupción. A mí no me gustó mucho fue que la película trata muchos temas a la vez como la redención, la lucha de los marginados, la opresión de la policía y la corrupción, son muchas cosas y como que no le da tiempo de desarrollar todo completo pero algo que si mejoraron con respecto a la primera parte son los efectos visuales y las escenas de acción, ya no parece una película de bajo presupuesto, supongo que el apoyo de Netflix ayudó con esto y también creo que esa parte de acción fue lo que más le gustó a mí esposo, aunque no recuerdo si el vio la primera parte.
Aquí la historia empieza con Connor saliendo de la cárcel, el va preso por asumir la culpa de los crímenes cometidos por otros en especial por la culpa de Garrett y por eso es que Connor lo odia en esta película, el hecho es que Connor ahora trabaja limpiando en un centro comunitario y trata de mantenerse bajo perfil mientras que Garrett tiene todo un imperio porque está traficando con una droga que sacan de la tortura de los que tienen superpoderes. También está un policía corrupto Kingston que está encompinchado con Garrett y que el tipo se la da de bueno en público pero es un criminal, la verdad me cayó mal su personaje porque el hombre es el típico tira la piedra y esconde la mano, creo que es algo muy característico en estos altos cargos de policía donde son los primeros que están metidos en cosas turbias, el hombre hace todo un show con unos perros robots que se inventó que son los que matan a la gente pero el lo hace ver como que son buenos y son sólo para vigilar a la comunidad que tiene poderes.
Hay una niña que se llama Pavani que tiene la capacidad de manipular dispositivos electrónicos y ve como uno de estos perros mata a su hermano, el hermano de Pavani estaba metido en la venta de drogas y tenía el poder de camuflarse entre las cosas pero los perros lo detectaron y lo mataron, ella vio todo y busca mostrar a todo el mundo como mataron a su hermano para dejar al descubierto toda la corrupción de la policía. Connor termina ayudando a Pavani y me gusta porque hay algo de redención ya que termina usando sus poderes para el bien, lo único malo es que tiene que dejar su orgullo y buscar a Garrett para pedirle ayuda que no me da nada de confianza y al final hay toda una trama de traiciones.
En las actuaciones está Robbie Amell que hace el papel de Connor y a mí parecer lo hace muy bien porque es un héroe obligado cuando solo quiere mantenerse alejado de los problemas después de haber pasado unos cuantos años en la cárcel y por culpa de otro pero se nota que es real eso de que ha cambiado desde la anterior película y no quiere meterse en problemas, para mí en esta secuela su actuación es mejor que en la primera película porque tiene un poco más de guion al contrario de Stephen Amell que está como atascado en el papel de Garrett y le faltó más profundidad a su actuación para hacer creer que es un capo criminal poderoso que tiene a los policías corruptos metidos en el bolsillo, hay algo que no me terminó de convencer y es que se veía como rígido, no se si es porque es un actor más de series y está muy metido en su papel de Arrow aunque fue ya hace unos años . Alex Mallari Jr. como el sargento Kingston es convincente en su papel de policía corrupto que presenta una cara amable al público mientras se dedica a matar y extorsionar cuando nadie lo ve, Sirena Gulamgaus me impresionó en el papel de Pavani porque muestra vulnerabilidad y fuerza a la vez y siempre estuve pendiente de que no le pasara nada, no se si a ustedes les pasa que se sienten tensos cuando ven a un personaje en peligro.
En el final todo sale bien y logran desenmascarar al policía frente a todos y algo que no me esperaba es que este tipo también tenía superpoderes que decidió ocultarlos y entrar al sistema en lugar de asumir su identidad, además de corrupto resultó ser todo un resentido. Pav y Connor se salvan y este termina de encargado del centro comunitario ya que en toda esta persecución Kingston mató a su jefa Mina al principio de la película. El final es de esos que dan esperanza porque sale a la luz la corrupción y esto puede llevar a un cambio positivo, pero también insinúa que Kingston era sólo la punta del iceberg y que hay fuerzas mayores en juego en Lincoln City que aún no hemos visto, creo que este final nos prepara para una tercera película lo cual no me molestaría pero si esperaría que desarrollen y exploren nuevos e interesantes temas y que no sea más de lo mismo. Yo le doy a Code 8 Part II un 6/10 porque aunque mejoraron los efectos especiales y las secuencias de acción los defectos de esta trama no la llevaron a ser tan buena como la primera, me parece que había muchos temas como la crítica social hacia la corrupción y las fuerzas policiales que no se desarrollaron completamente además de la parte de la redención de los protagonistas y fue difícil definir si era un thriller de acción o una película de ciencia ficción, así que si hay una tercera parte espero que los creadores se tomen el tiempo necesario para desarrollar realmente los personajes y el tema.

The other day I saw Code 8: Part II and although it has some details that I will tell you about I was surprised that my husband who always falls asleep in the movies this one if he saw it complete, this sequel is still in Lincoln City where people with superpowers are marginalized which is contrary in superhero movies, of course this is more a science fiction film that wants to make a criticism towards the brutality of the police, the control of these forces and corruption. I didn't like it very much because the movie deals with many issues at the same time like redemption, the struggle of the marginalized, the oppression of the police and corruption, there are many things and it doesn't give time to develop everything completely but something that they did improve with respect to the first part is the visual effects and action scenes, it doesn't look like a low budget movie, I guess the support of Netflix helped with this and I also think that the action part was what my husband liked the most, although I don't remember if he saw the first part.
Here the story starts with Connor getting out of jail, he goes to prison for taking the blame for crimes committed by others especially Garrett's guilt and that is why Connor hates him in this movie, the fact is Connor now works cleaning at a community center and tries to keep a low profile while Garrett has a whole empire because he is dealing a drug they get from torturing those with superpowers. There is also a corrupt cop Kingston who is connected to Garrett and the guy is good in public but he is a criminal, I really disliked his character because the man is the typical throw the stone and hide the hand, I think it is something very characteristic in these high police officers where they are the first ones who are involved in shady things, the man makes a whole show with some robot dogs that he invented that are killing people but he makes it look like they are good and are only to monitor the community that has powers.
There is a girl named Pavani who has the ability to manipulate electronic devices and she sees how one of these dogs kills her brother, Pavani's brother was into selling drugs and had the power to camouflage himself among things but the dogs detected him and killed him, she saw everything and seeks to show everyone how they killed her brother to expose all the corruption of the police. Connor ends up helping Pavani and I like it because there is some redemption as he ends up using his powers for good, the only bad thing is that he has to leave his pride and look for Garrett to ask for help which I don't trust at all and at the end there is a whole plot of betrayals.
In the performances there is Robbie Amell who plays the role of Connor and in my opinion he does very well because he is a forced hero when he just wants to stay out of trouble after spending a few years in jail and because of someone else but you can tell that it is real that he has changed since the previous movie and does not want to get in trouble, For me in this sequel his performance is better than in the first film because it has a little more script unlike Stephen Amell who is like stuck in the role of Garrett and lacked more depth to his performance to make believe that he is a powerful criminal kingpin who has the corrupt cops in his pocket, there is something that did not convince me and is that he looked like stiff, I do not know if it is because he is an actor more series and is very involved in his role as Arrow although it was already a few years ago. Alex Mallari Jr. as Sergeant Kingston is convincing in his role as a corrupt cop who presents a friendly face to the public while he is dedicated to kill and extort when no one sees him, Sirena Gulamgaus impressed me in the role of Pavani because she shows vulnerability and strength at the same time and I was always watching that nothing happens to her, I don't know if it happens to you that you feel tense when you see a character in danger.
In the end everything goes well and they manage to unmask the cop in front of everyone and something that I did not expect is that this guy also had superpowers and decided to hide them and enter the system instead of assuming his identity, besides being corrupt he turned out to be a resentful guy. Pav and Connor are saved and Connor ends up in charge of the community center since in all this chase Kingston killed his boss Mina at the beginning of the movie. The ending is one of those that gives hope because it brings corruption to light and this can lead to positive change, but it also hints that Kingston was just the tip of the iceberg and that there are bigger forces at play in Lincoln City that we have yet to see, I think this ending sets us up for a third movie which I wouldn't mind but I would hope that they develop and explore and new and interesting themes and that it's not more of the same. I give Code 8 Part II a 6/10 because although they improved the special effects and action sequences the flaws of this plot did not make it as good as the first one, it seems to me that there were many themes like social criticism towards corruption and police forces that were not fully developed plus the redemption part of the main characters and it was hard to define if it was an action thriller or a science fiction movie, so if there is a third part I hope the creators take the time to really develop the characters and the theme.
