Strange Darling es un slasher súper raro, parece como si mezclaras un documental de crímenes reales con una película de terror de los años 70, la parte visual y la música son lo mejor, los colores son bastante intensos en las escenas de persecución todo es rojo y no deja de sonar Love Hurts lo que hace que te sientas de lleno en la época. Los personajes principales tienen por nombre The Lady y The Demon, la historia sigue lo que ocurre cuando una noche de aventura sale mal, tiene una forma parecida a la de Tarantino, la película está dividida en seis capítulos, pero comienza con el capítulo 3 de lleno en la acción con The Lady corriendo por el desierto de Oregón mientras The Demon que está drogado con cocaína y armado con un rifle la está persiguiendo, la película va saltando en el tiempo para mostrarnos cómo han llegado hasta aquí.
Quizás la película pudo haber sido un completo desastre porque no tiene una estructura lineal pero el director JT Mollner hizo un gran trabajo para mantener todas las piezas en orden sin perder el misterio. Vemos cómo se conocen en un motel, cómo su primera chispa se convierte en algo siniestro y cómo todo se va por un barranco. Todo este tema del bondage, sumisión, masoquismo es algo controversial aunque la película no se centra exclusivamente en este tema pero si lo usa para generar más tensión y hacer que nos preguntemos quién está realmente al mando, esta película jugó con mis expectativas por un momento llegue a creer que sabía quién era la víctima y quién era el depredador pero resultó ser totalmente diferente.
Willa Fitzgerald es la dueña de esta película, para mí su actuación merece toda la atención, pasa de ser vulnerable a aterradora en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, Kyle Gallner es bastante intenso interpretando a The Demon tiene una mezcla de encanto y amenaza que hace que dudes de él. Barbara Hershey y Ed Begley Jr. interpretan a una pareja de hippies que viven en el bosque y dan un toque de normalidad a todo este enredo.
Strange Darling es una de esas películas que te gusta y te frustra a la vez y esto tiene sentido porque juega con las expectativas, está muy bien hecha y las actuaciones son buenas, las escenas de persecución son intensas y sangrientas y aunque se puede notar bastante la influencia de Tarantino en la trama no lineal el director JT Mollner fue capaz de crear algo único en el género de los asesinos en serie, no estoy diciendo que Strange Darling sea perfecta o no tenga defectos pero para mí esta película lo logró y tiene bastante para recordar y discutir sobre ella.

Para mí Strange Darling es una buena película, las actuaciones son buenas, la parte visual es buena y es una película de terror diferente, no es predecible como las de siempre, yo le doy un 8/10.

This film played with my expectations for a moment, I came to believe that I knew who the victim was and who the predator was, but it turned out to be totally different.

Strange Darling is one of those films that you like and find frustrating at the same time and this makes sense because it plays with expectations, it is very well made and the performances are good, the chase scenes are intense and bloody and although Tarantino's influence on the non-linear plot is quite noticeable, director JT Mollner was able to create something unique in the serial killer genre, I'm not saying that Strange Darling is perfect or without flaws, but for me this film succeeded and has enough to remember and discuss.
The ending is quite interesting, it reveals something without revealing too much and it turns out that our assumptions about who these characters are are completely wrong.
