Hoy mi mamá me despertó con September, la canción de Earth, wind & fire y, aunque esa canción es básicamente el verano y me debe dar una linda sensación, lo que yo pensé fue en robot dreams, la película animada que le robó el corazón a la audiencia el año pasado. Y si no la has visto, además de perder el tiempo, te digo que es una película hermosa sobre el duelo y el dejar ir; un tema que realmente me parece increíble y que es precioso tanto de ver cómo de recordar, por eso, quiero hoy hablar de películas que tocan ese tema. Películas depresivas en su mayoría, pero algunas melancólicas y llenas de nostalgia. Películas que duelen, pero que te ayudan a crecer.

Today my mom woke me up with September, the song by Earth, wind & fire and, although that song is basically the summer and should give me a nice feeling, what I thought of was robot dreams, the animated movie that stole the hearts of the audience last year. And if you haven't seen it, besides wasting your time, I tell you that it is a beautiful movie about grief and letting go; a subject that I really find incredible and that is beautiful to watch and to remember, that's why today I want to talk about movies that touch that subject. Mostly depressive films, but some of them are melancholic and full of nostalgia. Movies that hurt, but that help you grow.
Un verano con papá
Representar a un personaje que tiene depresión es muy difícil, tanto desde el concepto y la escritura hasta la actuación y los pequeños gestos que tiene que tener en toda la película, justo por eso Paul Mescal hace un excelente trabajo retratando a un padre joven que además tiene depresión. Si esto fuera así, la película, más que ser una película sobre el duelo sería una película sobre la depresión, y en su gran mayoría lo es, pero al ser una película que está contada desde los recuerdos de su protagonista, Sophie, la hija de Calum (Paul Mescal). Esto hace que el relato muestre no solo nostalgia, sino entendimiento de una mujer que en su momento no comprendió lo que estaba sucediendo a su alrededor.
Aftersun
Portraying a character who has depression is very difficult, both from the concept and the writing to the acting and the little gestures he has to have throughout the film, which is exactly why Paul Mescal does an excellent job portraying a young father who also has depression. If this were so, the film, rather than being a film about grief would be a film about depression, and for the most part it is, but being a film that is told from the memories of its protagonist, Sophie, Calum's (Paul Mescal) daughter. This makes the story show not only nostalgia, but understanding of a woman who at the time did not understand what was going on around her.
Demolición
Tal vez, una de mis películas favoritas en la vida. Cuándo Davis pierde a su esposa en un choque de autos, la única forma de deshacerse de todos los sentimientos que tiene reprimidos es desarmando cosas. Tras unos días reprimiendo sus sentimientos conoce a una mamá joven y crea una relación muy amena con el hijo de la mujer, lo que sirve para Davis cómo combustible para buscar su mejor versión de alguna manera; con un soundtrack genial y unas escenas divertidas pero sin dejar de ser una película que se toma completamente en serio, Demolition es perfecta para ver un domingo, para ver cuándo te sientes mal o simplemente para ver cuándo estas feliz.
Demolition
Perhaps one of my favorite movies ever. When Davis loses his wife in a car crash, the only way to get rid of all his pent-up feelings is to take things apart. After a few days of repressing his feelings he meets a young mom and creates a very enjoyable relationship with the woman's son, which serves as fuel for Davis to somehow find his best self; with a great soundtrack and some funny scenes but still being a movie that takes itself completely seriously, Demolition is perfect to watch on a Sunday, to see when you're feeling down or just to see when you're happy.
Manchester frente al mar
Con una de las actuaciones más recordadas en la historia del cine, Manchester frente al mar, si es una película completamente deprimente, pero bueno, a veces el duelo si se trata de dolor, si se trata de deprimirse y caer en un hueco del que es difícil de salir. Por eso, a pesar de una de las películas más deprimentes que he visto en mi vida, es casi imposible no recomendarla ni mencionarla en esta lista, ya que termina mostrando una realidad de forma cruda y salvaje que para muchos se puede sentir como algo completamente real. Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) es un padre que sufre de depresión tras la muerte de su esposa y su hija; más allá de eso, todo lo que cuente podría decirse que es spoiler, y si no la has visto, tienes que hacerlo lo antes posible.
Manchester by the sea
With one of the most memorable performances in the history of cinema, Manchester by the sea is a completely depressing movie, but well, sometimes grief is about pain, it is about getting depressed and falling into a hole from which it is difficult to get out. That's why, despite one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen, it's almost impossible not to recommend it or mention it on this list, as it ends up showing a reality in a raw and savage way that for many can feel completely real. Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) is a father suffering from depression after the death of his wife and daughter; beyond that, everything he tells could be said to be spoilers, and if you haven't seen it, you need to do so as soon as possible.
