Sputnik is a film of Russian origin that really surprised me for its western influences but also for its unique touch. It is well known that Russian science fiction is one of the best in the world and this film is no exception.
There is a lot of influence from movies like Alien so I'm going to start with a short synopsis so you understand what it's all about.
In sputnik, we can appreciate at first that a psychologist is being prosecuted for negligence. Soon a commander of the Russian forces proposes to attend something that may surprise her.
Sputnik es una película de origen ruso que verdaderamente me sorprendió por sus influencias occidentales pero también por su toque único. Es bien sabido que la ciencia ficción rusa es una de las mejores en el mundo y esta película no es una excepción.
Hay mucha influencia de películas como Alien así que voy a empezar con una breve sinopsis para que entiendan de qué va todo.
En sputnik podremos apreciar al principio que una psicóloga está siendo enjuiciada por negligencia. Pronto un comandante de las fuerzas rusas le propone asistir a algo que puede llegar a sorprenderla.
A Russian cosmonaut upon landing on earth established a kind of symbiosis with an alien, being part of it but also being able to leave the body of the cosmonaut at will at certain times and then residing in the body of the cosmonaut.
Multiple experiments begin to be carried out, the commander wants the alien to be used as a weapon since the plot is based on times of the cold war and the struggle for power between the United States and Russia was on the rise. Soon the psychologist notices that the cosmonaut's hormonal changes radically change day and night, so she tests the subject by putting him in a state of tension.
Un cosmonauta ruso al aterrizar en la tierra estableció una especie de simbiosis con un extraterrestre, siendo parte de él pero también siendo capaz de salir del cuerpo del cosmonauta a voluntad en determinados horarios y luego residiendo en el cuerpo del cosmonauta.
Empiezan a hacerse múltiples experimentos, el comandante desea que el extraterrestre sea usado como arma ya que la trama está basada en tiempos de la guerra fría y la lucha por el poder entre Estados Unidos y Rusia estaba en auge. Pronto la psicóloga nota que los cambios hormonales del cosmonauta cambian radicalmente de día y de noche así que pone a prueba al sujeto poniéndolo en un estado de tensión.
These hormonal changes happen because the alien feeds on cortisol, in short of the fear that people feel. The Russian commander goes even further by feeding this alien convicted human beings, as he calls the scum of society. When noticing the fear of his victims, the unwanted passenger murders his victims with extreme brutality, however, as I said before, fear is a key factor in the process of their feeding.
Estos cambios hormonales suceden porque el extraterrestre se alimenta de cortisol, en pocas palabras del miedo que sienten las personas. El comandante ruso va aún más lejos alimentando a este alienígena con seres humanos convictos, como él dice la escoria de la sociedad. Al notar el miedo de sus víctimas el pasajero no deseado asesina con extrema brutalidad a sus víctimas, sin embargo como dije anteriormente el miedo es un factor clave para el proceso de su alimentación.
The symbiosis between the cosmonaut and the alien is getting stronger and stronger even being able to remember what the alien has done which is highly disturbing for the cosmonaut. When I say that there are clear references between Alien and this film, it is due to the fact that there is a guest in a human being, but there are also notable differences. The plot runs in difficult times, there is some politics involved but in a subtle way. The plot also focuses on experiments and how to stop the symbiosis between the cosmonaut and the alien, thus creating an implacable weapon but the attempts are increasingly frustrating.
La simbiosis entre el cosmonauta y el alienígena cada vez es más fuerte incluso pudiendo recordar lo que el extraterrestre ha hecho lo cual es altamente perturbador para el cosmonauta. Cuando digo que hay claras referencias entre Alien y esta película es por el hecho de que hay un huésped en un ser humano pero también hay notables diferencias. La trama se ejecuta en tiempos complicados, hay algo de política de por medio pero de manera sutil. También la trama se centra en experimentos y de cómo detener la simbiosis entre el cosmonauta y el alienígena creando de esa manera un arma implacable pero los intentos cada vez son más frustrantes.
For the psychologist, the commander's methods are not exactly the best and she decides to escape from the compound.
The film can be somewhat minimalist in a way because it focuses on the characters while still being a horror film with a marked accent of a psychological thriller that is more than enjoyable. There are many gore scenes in the shoot that can shock us with their brutality especially when the alien is fed with convicts.
The strong touch of hard science fiction and the way they explain the scientific processes that are taking place seemed to me to be the most special thing about the film. I am a regular reader of science fiction novels and therefore I like that there are real scientific reasons in the development of a plot and this film achieves it quite well especially when there are dialogues between the psychologist and another scientist who is a candidate for the Nobel Prize.
Para la psicóloga los métodos del comandante no son precisamente los mejores y decide escapar del recinto.
La película puede ser de cierta manera un poco minimalista porque se centra en los personajes eso sin dejar de ser una película de terror con un marcado acento a thriller psicológico más que disfrutable. Hay muchas escenas gore en el rodaje que pueden impactarnos por su brutalidad en especial cuando el alien es alimentado con convictos.
El fuerte toque de ciencia ficción dura y la manera como explican los procesos científicos que se están llevando a cabo me pareció que es lo más especial de la película. Soy un lector habitual de novelas de ciencia ficción y por ende me gusta que haya verdaderas razones científicas en el desarrollo de una trama y esta película lo logra bastante bien en especial cuando hay diálogos entre la psicóloga y otro científico que es un aspirante al premio nobel.
The visual effects are very well done and the alien has a glimpse of the way of life that we can find in movies like Life which is also another film deserving of praise. The soundtrack climaxes at special moments which gives it a satisfying boost in critical scenes of the shoot and the performances are well executed.
This film is a tribute to horror and science fiction films of the 80's but with the technology that we have now and moving away from the naivety that we had in those times, that is, it is not lacking in scientific terminology that makes the development of the script more plausible.
Los efectos visuales están muy bien logrados y el extraterrestre tiene un atisbo a la forma de vida que podemos encontrar en películas como Life que también es otra película merecedora de elogios. La banda sonora llega a su clímax en momentos especiales lo que le da un impulso satisfactorio en escenas críticas del rodaje y las actuaciones son bien ejecutadas.
Esta película es un tributo a películas de terror y de ciencia ficción de los 80’s pero con la tecnología que poseemos ahora y alejándonos de la ingenuidad que teníamos en esos tiempos, es decir no es carente de terminología científica que hace más verosímil el desarrollo del guion.
Despite the strong influences it has from the West, it is easy to determine that it is a Russian film, not because of the language but because of the science fiction character of that country, cold and without absurd dramas. This is an authentic science fiction film with elements of horror that will cause us to jump more than once, however the intrigue it produces is what gives this production a strong vitality.
I am sincerely glad that every day more good science fiction films of foreign origin are seen, taking into account that for a long time this type of genre was monopolized by the United States creating without a doubt the best of science fiction, but it is the turn of that new countries create their own voice regarding my favorite genre of movies and novels. Russia was one of the few countries that had created its voice, the space power that the Soviet Union had may have influenced the creation of works such as Solaris but they had long ago moved away from this aspect. Apparently, they have arrived in force again thanks to this jewel that I am sure to see again.
A pesar de las fuertes influencias que tiene de occidente es fácil determinar que es una película rusa, no por el idioma sino por el carácter de la ciencia ficción de ese país, fría y sin dramas absurdos. Esto es una auténtica película de ciencia ficción con elementos de terror que nos provocara un salto más de una vez sin embargo la intriga que nos produce es lo que le da una fuerte vitalidad a esta producción.
Me alegra sinceramente que cada día se ven más buenas películas de ciencia ficción de origen extranjero tomando en cuenta que desde hace mucho este tipo de genero estaba monopolizado por Estados Unidos creando sin duda alguna lo mejor de la ciencia ficción, pero ha llegado el turno de que nuevos países creen su propia voz en cuanto a mi genero favorito de películas y de novelas. Rusia era uno de los pocos países que se habían creado su voz, el poder espacial que tuvo la Unión Soviética quizás haya influenciado para la creación de obras como Solaris pero de hace mucho tiempo se habían alejado de esta vertiente. Al parecer han llegado con fuerza de nuevo gracias a esta joya que estoy seguro de volver a ver.

Esta la vi hace un tiempo , le hice review. A mi me gusto, fue entretenida, tal como lo dices, aunque tiene muchas influencias de películas americanas ( Alien), se siente el estilo ruso jajaja. Por cierto, me encanto la actriz protagonista. una buena opción y recomendable para los que no han visto esta historia de ciencia ficción y horror.
Si, es una buena propuesta por parte de los rusos, con claras influencias de occidente pero no deja de tener su toque.

STOPMe había olvidado de esta peli. Tengo que verla algún día, me interesa ver como hacen los rusos para intentar mejorar a las pelis clásicas de Alien ahahah. No creo que las mejoren pero con que sea entretenida ya se puede considerar un éxito.
No creo que sea mejor que Alien pero la pelicula a pesar de sus influencias es evidente que es rusa. Dale una oportunidad y te daras cuenta de lo que digo.
