Hello Hive !
You know those moments when the universe throws at you situations that are too specific to make you reconsider your opinion on some topic? Well, that happened to me this time, one day I was with some classmates and the topic of thai-dramas suddenly came up and my first thought was "thai dramas are horrible" or at least most of the ones I had seen by that point were, then in the evening a very out of place recommendation appeared on my youtube, the trailer of a thai remake of one of the most controversial and popular k-dramas of its time (which is inspired by a quite famous manga) Boys Over Flowers .
I went in to watch the preview with all the curiosity in the world and I was surprised, not only the aesthetics seemed pretty good quality despite being a drama, but also the performances looked good? It was pleasantly surprising and I had to swallow my words said in the morning of that day.
I waited patiently for the premiere of the first episode of F4 Thailand, then I waited every week for a new chapter, and finally today I will share with you my opinion (after two months since its end, because procrastinating is my thing), and if it fulfilled the high expectations I had after seeing its trailer.
Co-produced by GMMTV and Parbee Taweesuk, under the direction of Patha Thongpan and Aticha Tanthanawigrai, and with the performances of Tontawan Tantivejakul as Gorya, Vachirawit Chivaaree as Thyme , Jirawat Sutivanichsak as Ren, Metawin Opas-iamkajorn asKavin, y Hirunkit Changkham as MJ, we present "F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers" a Thai remake of the franchise of novels based on the author's manga Yoko Kamio "Boys Over Flowers"
Gorya is a lower class girl who is accepted into a prestigious high school where only wealthy and influential people go, marginalized by her social status she goes unnoticed among the students of the place until her path crosses with a new student, who seems not to care about Gorya's economic status and with whom she becomes instant friends, but when an incident leads Gorya to defend the new student in front of the F4, the four most popular, important and feared boys of the school, her "quiet" life will change completely as she draws the attention of the group and especially their leader, Thyme, and soon Gorya will find herself the target of cruel acts of bullying at her school after receiving the red card from the "F4", but she does not plan to stand idly by and lose the only chance of a stable future for her family, armed with courage she confronts Thyme and his cruel acts, not knowing that such an action would bring their paths together.
I think if there is something that characterizes BOF is both its clichés and its toxicity, it is certainly not a morally ideal novel, this version of Boys Over Flowers is not saved from the toxic scenarios of past versions, but unlike its predecessors, F4 Thailand does not seek to infantilize or romanticize, and make a comedy out of the more dramatic and serious parts of the story in a quest to "soften" the negative connotation that such scenes can imply, but rather handle the whole situation with a seriousness that I had not seen in the other versions and achieve this without it feeling too heavy-handed.
Misunderstandings and problems are something that occur throughout the novel, now, this is something that is part of the very nature of the story, without these moments it would simply all be resolved very quickly (which would be more "logical", but here we are for drama and romance, not logic) and wouldn't give the strongest plot points a chance to be shown, with F4 Thailand they always tried to interweave each dramatic part of the story to maintain some correlation throughout the novel and instead of playing with the classic "Problem solved, problem forgotten, nothing happened here!" they gave each issue its own space to be solved as it should be and showed us how such problems strongly influenced the lives of the characters even after they were solved, which is something that adds more value to this version.
Something I loved in this novel is that they gave a firmer character evolution to the main characters, the events mark their characters little by little and not almost immediately, we can observe a genuine progress between the internal battles of the characters and in turn allowed us to know more of their stories and create "connections" with them, which was a smart move, especially for those who already know the story, because despite knowing all the possible scenarios, the characters feel totally new and attractive to see. Another aspect that I found very interesting to see was the inclusion of the social networks in the chapters, which is quite present and adds a lot of entertainment to the dynamics of the story, besides helping us as an indicator of the most relevant details in the novel.
Now, the weakest points in this novel for me were the following: First, the constant advertising of various products that appears in the chapters, it gets a little tedious and well, quite obvious, but yes, I give them credit for always including the products in scenes during actions that have some weight in the story or in quite entertaining situations, it is a detail that is appreciated. The second point that didn't quite close for me were some of the performances that felt a bit timid and awkward, although overall, it wasn't anything that made the experience worse (look, the main reason I've abandoned a lot of Thai-dramas in the past was because of the performances, but F4 Thailand exceeded my expectations).
This novel was made with love, I have no doubt in saying it, because they really took great care in making a version that kept the characteristics of the past stories but improved them, seeking to create a genuine relationship with the public and make it as "realistic" as possible without losing the "charm" that characterizes this story.
Watching this drama you can almost feel how the direction and production in general took it quite seriously and took care that every detail was meaningful (like Gorya working in a flower store honoring the name by which this story is recognized) giving us probably one of the most beautiful novels, cinematically speaking, I've seen in a long time, (even if you don't like the story, the aesthetics of this series is really nice, they achieved a perfect balance between keeping the details well polished and pleasing to the eye without abusing the "artistic" factor to concentrate only on the visuals) and with a really entertaining plot development.
Honestly, my favorite version of Boys Over flowers, probably also my favorite series adaptation of a romance manga, and without a doubt, I could even call it one of my favorite dramas in a long time (I really liked it a lot, in case it wasn't clear :'D). So yeah, I have my own separate standard for novels, and this one definitely gets a...

Gracias por tu comentario :D.
I was enthusiastic when it first came out but the ending was not as good as I expected. There's new one called Wannabe, you should check that out too.
Oh yes, I agree with you, the ending was not what I expected compared to the rest of the series, it felt weak and somewhat incomplete?, especially the mother's behavior at the end didn't convince me, I didn't enjoy the ending at all because of that.
Wannabe? I haven't heard of it, I'm going to look for information and keep an eye on it, thanks for your comment. :D!
Dear @m3why, we need your help!
The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.
May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency,
