Knock at the Cabin was released in 2023 and the director is M. Night Shyamalan, the movie has some good concepts but I think Shyamalan exaggerated things in an attempt to be philosophical, the whole apocalyptic feel seems a bit excessive, he wanted something new and what we have here is Shyamalan striving to make great social commentaries about humanity and faith and ends up tripping. The plot is about a family made up of a gay couple, Eric and Andrew, and their adopted daughter Wen, who go on vacation to a cabin in the middle of the forest. Everything is normal until four armed strangers appear, led by a huge man named Leonard who looks like a teddy bear, and they declare that they have seen the end of the world and that they must sacrifice one of the family as a way to save the world. It's one thing to go on vacation and have all your plans ruined, but this is unusual. I don't know if anyone would kill a family member to save humanity. It seems to me that the plot lacks some seriousness to make it interesting . It's as if Shyamalan didn't want to get fully involved in the ethical part of the story. Every time the family fails to make a decision plagues appear and this seemed a bit forced to me, from time to time scenes appear that give more information about the relationship between Eric and Andrew, which is very good but does not compensate for the lack of reality in the main story.

Among the actors is Dave Bautista as Leonard, the guy is huge but he doesn't look tough, he has a calm and quiet demeanor, which gives you chills when he talks about the apocalypse. Jonathan Groff and Ben Aldridge, who play Eric and Andrew, have some nice love scenes but I would have preferred to see more scenes where their characters' relationships were tested. Wen is played by Kristen Cui, and the rest of the actors are Rupert Grint, Abby Quinn and Nikki Amuka Bird, their characters don't seem to be well written, I felt they lacked depth.

In my opinion, Knock at the Cabin fell far short of being a success. Shyamalan tried to play with some heavy concepts such as faith, sacrifice and what it means to be human, topics that I liked that he tried to show, but I think the film failed to achieve the emotional and philosophical depth that it intended. In the end I wasn't even moved, another thing I didn't like was the pace, at times the movie seems like a real thriller but in most cases I got quite bored. And although I liked the visual part, there are things that don't seem real like the cabin and that made me lose track of the story at several points thinking that it wasn't real at all.
En mi opinión a Knock at the Cabin le faltó mucho para ser un éxito, Shyamalan intentó jugar con algunos conceptos pesados como la fe, el sacrificio y lo que significa ser humano, son temas que me han gustado que haya intentado mostrar pero creo que la película no consiguió llegar a la profundidad emocional y filosófica que pretendía. Al final ni siquiera me conmoví, otra de las cosas que no me gustó fue el ritmo, a veces la película parece un thriller de verdad pero en la mayoría de los casos me aburrí bastante. Y aunque me gustó la parte visual hay cosas que no parecen reales como la cabaña y eso hizo que me perdiera de la historia en varios momentos pensando en que no era nada real.
At the end of the film, after many bets and some bloody deaths of the four strangers, Eric convinces Andrew that it is time to make the sacrifice, Eric offers himself and although Andrew does not want to he has to shoot him. As the end approaches and Eric dies, the visions end and we see that the world really was at stake. The two remaining family members leave the cabin and discover that the world has been saved but at a great price. It's supposed to be an emotional and moving scene but the truth is quite cheesy. I was left wondering if it was true or if there was something else. I mean, are we really expected to accept that only this family made the decision that saved all of humanity? It seemed pretty simple to me for the big questions that the movie can raise, I was a bit disappointed, I don't know if this was the best that Shyamalan could come up with.

I think that Knock at the Cabin is a film that tries to give more than it actually does. There are some interesting concepts and some good performances, my favorite was Bautista's, but for me it doesn't fit together as it should. It's obvious that Shyamalan deals with serious issues but I got the impression that the material didn't live up to the director's vision and although I like Shyamalan's work it's not a film I would see again. which is a real shame as the premise had the potential to be a truly philosophical thriller. Score 5.9/10.
Yo opino que Knock at the Cabin es una película que intenta dar más de lo que realmente da, hay algunos conceptos interesantes y algunas actuaciones son buenas, mi favorita fue la de Bautista, pero para mí no encaja como debería, es obvio que Shyamalan trata temas serios pero me dio la impresión de que el material no estuvo a la altura de la visión del director y aunque me gusta el trabajo de Shyamalan no es una película que volvería a ver, realmente es lamentable ya que la premisa tenía potencial para un thriller verdaderamente filosófico.
