Muy probablemente habrás escuchado hablar de esta serie. Stranger Things (Cosas más extrañas) ha sido una de las producciones más famosas de Netflix, puesto que en su momento su trama de ciencia ficción y horror ambientada en los años 80' fue muy llamativa y bien desarrollada.
Cuando se volvió famosa fui una de las que se embarcó en ver todos los episodios, tenía amigas que también los vieron y nos encantaba. Sin embargo, con el paso del tiempo mi opinión al respecto lamentablemente fue cambiando y en este post les comentaré por qué (sin spoilers).
You've probably heard of this series before. Stranger Things has been one of the most famous productions on Netflix, since at the time its science fiction and horror plot set in the 80s was very striking and well developed.
When it became famous I was one of those who embarked on watching all the episodes, I had friends who also watched them and we loved them. However, as time went by my opinion on the matter unfortunately changed and in this post I will tell you why (without spoilers).

1 temporada | Season 1
Esta es la mejor temporada de todas y fácilmente es de las mejores temporadas jamás hechas para una serie. Sí, lo digo de una vez. Todo el revuelo de esta serie es gracias a esta primera temporada que es una clase magistral de cómo hacer una serie bien. Cada aspecto fue cuidadosamente estructurado para que la trama tuviera sentido, los personajes fuesen adecuadamente desarrollados, la historia siguiera un curso entretenido y coherente, que la habientación fuese acorde y que visualmente fuera satisfactoria de ver. Stranger Things aquí dió con precisión en el blanco de todos los aspectos que componen una buena historia.
Los escritores no solo tuvieron una buena idea, sino que para la puesta en escena se aseguraron que todo tuviera sentido, que nada fuese hecho por casualidad o sin profundidad, asegurándose de transmitir claramente el mensaje de la historia con una ejecución que me atrevo a decir es perfecta.
El guión, la temática, la narración, los personajes, el reparto y el soundtrack están en perfecta sintonía para contarnos esta historia de ciencia ficción, suspenso, horror y fantasía oscura basada en la cultura pop y elementos literarios de la época de los 80, lo cual justifica la ambientación de la historia. La inspiración que para mí es más evidente es en las novelas de Stephen King.
This is the best season out of all and easily one of the best seasons ever made for a series. Yes, I'll say it straight away. All the hype about this series is thanks to this first season which is a masterclass in how to make a series right. Every aspect was carefully structured so that the plot made sense, the characters were adequately developed, the story followed an entertaining and coherent course, the setting was appropriate and visually satisfying to watch. Stranger Things hit the mark here with precision in all the aspects that make up a good story.
The writers not only had a good idea, but for the staging they made sure that everything made sense, that nothing was done by chance or without depth, making sure to clearly convey the message of the story with an execution that I dare to say is perfect.
The script, the theme, the narration, the characters, the cast and the soundtrack are in perfect harmony to tell us this story of science fiction, suspense, horror and dark fantasy based on pop culture and literary elements from the 80s, which justifies the setting of the story. The inspiration that is most evident to me is in Stephen King's novels.
Esta historia es tan buena porque no necesita hacer las cosas grandes y llamativas para que transmitan las emociones con impacto. Todo lo que ocurre es dentro del pueblo, con solo algunas personas que son quienes realmente tienen algún tipo de vínculo con los personajes más afectados lo que hace que todo se sienta más íntimo, más personal, por lo que las emociones se sienten a flor de piel. Esto hace que el suspenso sea mayor, que te identifiques con los personajes sintiendo su horror y su angustia al ver todas las cosas inexplicables que suceden.
Creo que precisamente ese es también el gancho de la serie, lo inexplicable, lo cual es lo que le aporta el misterio que la hace entretenida. Hay un montón de cosas que no nos explican del todo, como el origen de Eleven, la existencia del Upside Down y por qué comienzan a ocurrir todas estas cosas sobrenaturales. No lo explican pero tampoco hace falta, porque a veces menos es más y aquí funciona para que te centres en el mensaje principal que es el vínculo emocional entre los personajes y su crecimiento como personas.
Son gente ordinaria enfrentándose a situaciones extraordinarias que los ponen al límite, pero que son capaces de vencer. Si me detengo a drescribir el crecimiento de cada personaje y cada subtrama me extendería demasiado, pero todos tienen un crecimiento, un avance y todos tienen un propósito en la historia.
This story is so good because it doesn't need to make things big and flashy to convey emotions with impact. Everything that happens is within the town, with only a few people who are the ones who really have some kind of connection with the characters most affected, which makes everything feel more intimate, more personal, so the emotions are felt on the surface. This makes the suspense greater, the characters feel relatable making you feel their horror and anguish when seeing all the inexplicable things that happen.
I think that is precisely the hook of the series, the inexplicable, which is what gives it the mystery that makes it entertaining. There are a lot of things that are not fully explained to us, such as Eleven's origin, the existence of the Upside Down and why all these supernatural things start to happen. They don't explain it but it is not necessary either, because sometimes less is more and here it works to make you focus on the main message which is the emotional connection between the characters and their growth as a person.
They are ordinary people facing extraordinary situations that push them to the limit, but that they are able to overcome. If I stop to describe the growth of each character and each subplot, I would go on for too long, but they all have growth, progress, and they all have a purpose in the story.
Para mí, esta temporada debió ser la única que existiera y de hecho ese era el plan inicial. Es perfecta tal y como es, la historia no necesitaba más puesto que era suficiente. Pero la gente parece tener un problema para dejar ir las cosas... Pero bueno, la primera temporada fue increíble.
For me, this season should have been the only one ever, and that was the initial plan. It's perfect the way it is, the story didn't need more since it was enough. But people seem to have a problem letting go of things... Anyway, season 1 was awesome.
2 temporada | Season 2
Aquí es donde el problema empieza para mí. Cuando se rellena una historia que no pretendía ser continuada, comienza la falta de coherencia, los huecos argumentales y las decisiones sin mucho trasfondo. Aunque esta temporada no es mala, pierde muchos de los elementos que hicieron de la otra una historia tan buena. Ya no se siente como un suceso pequeño que cambió la vida de determinadas personas, ahora es algo mucho más grande que realmente no está tan bien estructurado.
Además vamos conociendo más sobre Upside Down por lo tanto, se pierde completamente el misterio, haciendo todo menos emocionante. Aunque aún está el elemento de resolver puzzles que tan genial fue en la primera temporada (amo a Joyce y el abecedario), en esta ocasión están más como relleno que otra cosa.
This is where the problem starts for me. When you fill out a story that wasn't meant to be continued, you get a lack of coherence, plot holes, and decisions without much substance. While this season isn't bad, it loses a lot of the elements that made the other one such a good story. It no longer feels like a small event that changed certain people's lives, it's now something much bigger that isn't really structured that well.
We also learn more about the Upside Down so the mystery is completely lost, making everything less exciting. While there's still the puzzle-solving element that was so great in the first season (I love Joyce and the alphabet), this time it's more like filler than anything else.
Sin embargo, la trama continúa con esos aspectos de horror que se hacen tan llamativos, sigue con el desarrollo de los personajes que mantiene una línea relativamente coherente y en general, es muy entretenida. Toda la estética es simplemente hermosa de ver en todas las temporadas. Así que como secuela aunque no esté al mismo nivel, es la continuación más lógica y decente considerando que desde un principio tal cosa no estaba en los planes.
However, the plot continues with those horror aspects that are so striking, it continues with the character development that maintains a relatively coherent line and in general, it is very entertaining. The whole aesthetic is simply beautiful to see in all seasons. So as a sequel, even if it is not at the same level, it is the most logical and decent continuation considering that such a thing was not in the plans from the beginning.
3 temporada | Season 3
Los plot twists ya no son tan interesantes, de hecho, son demasiado predecibles. La historia va perdiendo la coherencia pues lo que empezó como un evento aislado ahora es algo que posiblemente podría acabar con el mundo pero aún así, parece ser un problema fácil de resolver para un grupo de adolescentes. Por ello, en esta temporada es cuando la trama va perdiendo el sentido. Simplemente son situaciones que no tienen ni pies ni cabeza por mucho que sea ficción.
El progreso que habíamos visto en varios personajes se pierde completamente, haciendo que por algún motivo todo lo que aprendieron se perdiera y quedaran desde cero otra vez, cosa que por donde se vea no tiene sentido. Además hay tantos personajes principales, tantas subtramas, que es demasiada información a la vez como para ser desarrollada toda adecuadamente.
Hay personajes que desaparecen y nadie vuelve a mencionar, hay otros que reciben mucho protagonismo innecesario, y el gran problema de quitarle todo el misterio a la historia. De hecho, ya nada es sorpresa puesto que te lo revelan casi de inmediato.
Aunque tiene sus momentos interesantes, ya con esta temporada era más que suficiente para esta historia.
The plot twists are no longer as interesting, in fact, they are too predictable. The story is losing its coherence because what started as an isolated event is now something that could possibly end the world, but even so, it seems to be an easy problem to solve for a group of teenagers. Therefore, in this season, the plot is losing its meaning. They are simply situations that make no sense, no matter how much fiction it is.
The progress we had seen in several characters is completely lost, causing everything they learned to be lost for some reason and they are left from scratch again, which from any angle makes no sense. In addition, there are so many main characters, so many subplots, that it is too much information at once to be developed properly.
There are characters that disappear and no one mentions them again, there are others that receive a lot of unnecessary prominence, and the big problem is that all the mystery is removed from the story. In fact, nothing is a surprise anymore since it is revealed to you almost immediately.
Although it has its interesting moments, this season was more than enough for this story.
4 temporada | Season 4
En esta temporada se resumen todos los aspectos negativos que mencioné en las dos anteriores. Ya aquí es evidente que la historia perdió su esencia, buscando ser más algo llamativo que un misterio interesante, con demasiados personajes, demasiadas subtramas como para centrarse en una para desarrollarla adecuadamente, muchos huecos argumentales y ahora, como si fuera poco, parece más un drama adolescente que ciencia ficción y horror.
Claro que mantiene alguna de las cosas que fueron lo bueno de la primera temporada, pero no las suficientes. Sí tiene momentos entretenidos, también una historia particular que es la única que hace sentido considerando los eventos de la temporada anterior, pero insisto, que solo una de las mínimo diez subtramas sea la que tenga sentido es un despropósito.
This season sums up all the negative aspects I mentioned in the previous two seasons. It is already evident that the story lost its essence, trying to be more of a showy thing than an interesting mystery, with too many characters, too many subplots to focus on one to develop it properly, too many plot holes and now, as if that were not enough, it seems more like a teen drama than science fiction and horror.
Of course it maintains some of the things that were good about the first season, but not enough. It does have entertaining moments, also a particular story that is the only one that makes sense considering the events of the previous season, but I insist, that only one of the minimum ten subplots is the one that makes sense is absurd.
Así que esta serie en sus inicios fue de lo mejor que he visto jamás, pero poco a poco fue perdiendo su esencia y sentido quizá por hacer algo que fuera más llamativo que coherente, o puede que el problema haya sido que nunca debió tener una secuela. Sin embargo, puede llegar a disfrutarse hasta cierto punto, aunque personalmente ya no es una historia que me llame la atención.
Lo único que siempre ha sido excelente es la estética y las actuaciones que son increíbles por parte de todos los actores. De resto pues... Pudo ser mejor.
So this series was one of the best I've ever seen in its beginnings, but little by little it lost its essence and meaning, perhaps because it made something that was more striking than coherent, or maybe the problem was that it should never have had a sequel. However, it can be enjoyed to a certain point, although personally it is no longer a story that attracts my attention.
The only thing that has always been excellent is the aesthetics and the acting, which is incredible by all the actors. As for the rest, well... It could have been better.
