Del director Steve Beck, en el año de 1995 se llevó a las pantallas de cine ésta excelente película de terror, 13 ghosts.
Aunque fue muy duramente criticada, pienso que la tecnología utilizada en éste film, fue superior. Y no voy a hablar de reparto, o de puesta en escena. En esta oportunidad, voy a hablar del que para mí, fue el más aterrador de todos los personajes mostrados en ese film, El Chacal.
Para hacer el cuento corto y que me puedas entender un poco. Cyrus Kriticos al fallecer, deja en herencia su lujosa casa a su sobrino Arthur. Cuando éste va a la casa a reunirse con el abogado del magnate para finiquitar los trámites, nota que todas las paredes están hechas de vidrio con unos escritos grabados en Latín. Escritos que más adelante se enterará, son hechizos de contención, para retener a 12 fantasmas dentro de las instalaciones de dicha casa.
Una serie de eventos en desarrollo hacen que Arthur conozca a Dennis, el asistente psíquico de Cyrus, confesando, que él ayudó a su tío a atrapar dentro de ella a 12 fantasmas enojados. A lo largo de la trama, descubren que Cyrus no murió y que construyó una compleja máquina, diseñada por el diablo e impulsada por un sacrificio (sería el fantasma número 13), y que con la ayuda de los fantasmas atrapados, quienes representan el Zodíaco Negro, se abrirá el Ocularis Infernum (Latín para El ojo del infierno), el cual otorgaría a Cyrus el poder de predecir el futuro.
Quizás ya hayas visto esta peli. Y en caso contrario, te invito a que lo hagas. Te prometo que no vas a arrepentirte.
Hasta aquí todo perfecto. Ahora a lo que voy. Durante el desarrollo de la película, los personajes se van enfrentando con cada uno de los 12 fantasmas que han sido liberados por error. Siendo unos más aterradores que otros. El Niño Obeso y la Madre Nefasta, La Peregrina, El Aniquilador. Pero a mi juicio, el más sobresaliente es El Chacal. Es quien se lleva el primer puesto. Su sola presencia infunde un gran miedo. Éste sería un fantasma con el que nadie quisiera toparse.
Investigando un poco sobre el origen de éste fantasma, su historia cuenta que nació en 1887. Llamado Ryan Kuhn, fue hijo de una prostituta y a lo largo de su vida desarrolló un enfermizo deseo por las mujeres, siendo un violador y asesino de prostitutas. Ryan en un intento por salvarse, se internó voluntariamente en una institución mental, pero de nada le sirvió, ya que estando ahí, asesinó a una enfermera. Como consecuencia de éste acto, fue encerrado en una habitación con chaleco de fuerza, chaleco que estaba destrozando a mordiscos por su locura. Los residentes, al percatarse de éste comportamiento, deciden colocarle una jaula en la cabeza y lo trasladan a una celda oscura en el sótano. Esto no hizo más, que aumentar el odio de Ryan hacia las personas. Muere tras desatarse un incendio en la institución mental.
El Chacal es sin duda, la representación concentrada de todo lo diabólico que puede habitar en un ser sobrenatural. Es el inframundo en persona. El odio en su estado más puro. No siente dolor, ni compasión alguna. Su objetivo principal es causar mucho daño.
Realmente la producción de ésta película le hizo honor a este personaje. Transmitió en su caracterización mucha fuerza. Sería bastante interesante ver una película de la biografía de Ryan Kuhn. En mi escala de puntuación para los personajes de 13 fantasmas, le doy al Chacal un 10+.

Although it was very harshly criticized, I think the technology used in this film was superior. And I'm not going to talk about the cast, or the staging. In this opportunity, I am going to talk about what for me, was the most terrifying of all the characters shown in this film, The Jackal.
To make a short story so you can understand me a little. When Cyrus Kriticos dies, he bequeaths his luxurious house to his nephew Arthur when he goes to the house to meet with the tycoon's lawyer to finalize the arrangements, he notices that all the walls are made of glass with some writings engraved in Latin. The writings, which he later learns, are containment spells, to retain 12 ghosts within the premises of the house.
A series of unfolding events cause Arthur to meet Dennis, Cyrus' psychic assistant, confessing, that he helped his uncle trap 12 angry ghosts inside her. Throughout the plot, they discover that Cyrus did not die and that he built a complex machine, designed by the devil and powered by a sacrifice (he would be ghost number 13), and that with the help of the trapped ghosts, who represent the Black Zodiac, the Ocularis Infernum (Latin for The Eye of Hell), which would grant Cyrus the power to predict the future, will be opened.
Maybe you have already seen this movie. And if not, I invite you to do so. I promise you won't regret it.
So far so good. Now to what I'm going to do. During the development of the film, the characters are confronted with each of the 12 ghosts that have been released by mistake. Some being more terrifying than others. The Obese Boy and the Nefarious Mother, The Pilgrim, The Annihilator, but in my opinion, the most outstanding is The Jackal. It is the one who takes the first place. His very presence instills great fear. This would be a ghost that no one would want to encounter.
Researching a little about the origin of this ghost, his story tells that he was born in 1887. Named Ryan Kuhn, he was the son of a prostitute and throughout his life developed an unhealthy desire for women, being a rapist and murderer of prostitutes. Ryan, in an attempt to save himself, voluntarily committed himself to a mental institution, but to no avail, since while there, he murdered a nurse. As a consequence of this act, he was locked in a room with a straitjacket, a vest that he was biting to pieces because of his insanity. The residents, noticing this behavior, decided to put a cage on his head and moved him to a dark cell in the basement. This only increased Ryan's hatred of people. He dies after a fire breaks out in the mental institution.
The Jackal is undoubtedly the concentrated representation of everything diabolical that can inhabit a supernatural being. It is the underworld in person. Hatred in its purest state. He feels no pain, no compassion whatsoever. Its main objective is to cause a lot of damage.
The production of this film really honored this character. He conveyed in his characterization a lot of strength. It would be quite interesting to see a movie of Ryan Kuhn's biography. On my rating scale for the characters in 13 Ghosts, I give the Jackal a 10+.
