Movie Review: The Pope's Exorcist

"The Pope's Exorcist" is a 2023 supernatural horror film directed by Julius Avery and starring Russell Crowe as Father Gabriele Amorth, the Pope's personal exorcist. The film is loosely based on the real-life experiences of Amorth, who claimed to have performed more than 50,000 exorcisms during his lifetime.

In 1987, Father Gabriele Amorth, the Pope's exorcist, visits an Italian village to exorcise a possessed man, causing controversy within the Church. Later, he is sent to Spain to help a possessed boy, Henry, in a haunted abbey. With the assistance of Father Tomas Esquibel, they struggle to exorcise the demon Asmodeus. Through a grueling exorcism, Amorth offers himself to be possessed, eventually driving the demon away. The Pope recovers, the abbey is reconsecrated, and Amorth and Esquibel embark on a mission to combat evil at other sites.

The movie is excellent; I found it very intriguing and incredibly scary. If I had to say, this is the scariest movie I have ever watched in my movie history. I got chills and goosebumps while watching it, not to mention being scared to sleep at night because the memory of the demons keeps flashing through my head. The CGI, costumes, makeup, and sound were absolutely perfect.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is rated with a score of 48% out of 1237 ratings, while on IMDb, it is rated 6.1/10.

If you haven't watched the movie, I think you should give it a shot because it is worth your watchtime.

Thank you and have a great day.
