Building Our Hive Power

Previously, as part of a rule with our previous curation initiative, the @moviesonhive account was not allowed to make money from its posts. With all the work the moderators were putting in, it made sense that the distribution of rewards should be even. The downside to this rule is that these community accounts remain dormant. They're incapable of growing during this period, keeping communities reliant on the curation of whales and friends. Once we parted ways with the initiative, this made us purely independent. Which is something that I feel is best for Hive communities and Hive as a platform. Though this results in many hardships that makes building a community difficult. The primary problem: funds are needed. Funds are needed to build HP, curate posts and reward users, and also support frequent contests. To do all of this, this account needs to build its strength up a bit. For the past few months, we have pursued some changes that have encouraged this, starting with changing our highlights to 100% HP, purely curated and created by me, @namiks.

Recently I started to think of different ways to engage with the community and support it, and this led to a recent series I've started in which I use this account to throw out weekly film and series recommendations to the community. This is one of the ways in which I aim to move the community from being reliant purely on community highlights to support itself, and find more fun ways to do so. There is a complete graphical overhaul planned to change our icons, backgrounds, and banners. This is something I'm really excited about since I haven't been happy with how things have looked for quite a while now.

Here and there I have started to send my own funds to the account and powering them up, adding change to the HBD Savings side of things as well. But I can't do all of this on my own, and this is where the community can help. We have an active hive.vote curation trail that has been available to follow for a few years now, so firstly I'd like to remind everyone that this exists! If you wish to support the community in some manner, I'd suggest this one first. This means that your idle Hive Power can support our curation efforts, but the curation rewards go to you, not us. Secondly, the option of delegating your idle HP to us remains. I'd be much appreciative of any delegations, though I'd prefer to know that you're earning directly from this support with the trail.

Alternatively, if you enjoy what we do and want to support us, you could always curate the community highlights, which will continue to have its rewards set to 100% HP, much like the rest of the posts here in the community will. Once there is a stronger base for the community account, the aim is to return to our old ways, in which we distributed the earnings of these community highlights to those featured within them. Operated a podcast in which we paid the contributors, and more. I want this community to remain independent, to thrive and have the support it deserves. Naturally that may take some time, but if you read this and choose to support us: thank you.

Yes to more supporters in this amazing community. Blessings to the admins, curators, and the whole team! Clicked and supported the trail through HiveVote

That would definitely mean a lot to the community. Thank you so much.

It is always a pleasure to support the Hive Ecosystem even in the least way I could. Most welcome!

Thanks a lot! I've always advocated more for the trail since our users that follow it actually get rewarded for it compared to the delegation side of things. :)

True. I wish all the best for your community. Have a nice time and best regards.

That's cool. I'm part of the voting trail now and think my HP will be much better used there. Thanks for the information.

It's much appreciated! Thankfully with the trail you will actually earn for that curation too. :)

Earning some type of revenue as a community is vital, there's no reason one should shy away from it cause at the end of the day, that money is needed to sustain and scale.

This might be my first time chatting in this community, likely won't be my last so I'm glad to know some stones are being moved around to get things running.

Yep! I look forward to reaching a point in which we can start sharing some of that income again. A while ago we used to distribute the rewards of the highlights with those featured, I loved that we could do that, but right now 100% HP rewards is essential in just gaining a bit more strength in being able to support the community.

But any support helps, whether it's just curating other people's posts or commenting. Keeping things alive. It isn't something that's entirely on us to figure out, after all it wouldn't be a community then! :^)

I look forward to being able to finance some contests again though, that's always a really fun part of it all.

Your heart is in the right place and that's lovely.

I just looked at the community stats(weekly interactions) in relation to active users and it is already impressive.

Surely, that number can be scaled up further, just gotta find the right mix of activities to encourage community engagement. I mean, it's movies and TV shows, after sports, and music, that's an industry that should pull great numbers of interactions.

I love the idea of movie recommendations, I personally find it hard to sort great films to watch, so I should be checking that out from hereon.

Yeah. One of the things is definitely going beyond just the highlights we do. Those aren't really engaging. I want to find more ways to give people a reason to read and not just post and go. One thing is definitely improving the HP we have and being capable of rewarding posters and especially commenters, so we aren't reliant on the few whales that may enter the community and curate. That's more a long game to play though.

In the past we had a really fun series where we had community members come together and create podcasts. We paid them for it and it become a bit of a weekly thing. I loved that, I'd love to be able to fund that again!

I support that as well man. I'll give you some votes. I can't follow the trail now but you can be sure I'll do my best :)

Votes are just as useful! Even if they go to the posters and not our highlights. As long as people get curated for their efforts.

I definitely want to get the ball rolling though, build up that HP on the community account and ensure we can also curate without relying on larger figures to hold things up. Better to become that larger figure than to rely on them! ;)

Yeah, they are helping a lot but communities should be supported by their accounts as well

Supported. Meanwhile...

I'd be happy to contribute.

Thanks for the offer! I have someone that can do it all and can give feedback in person, they did the last Christmas contest graphics. If there's something in the future though I'll keep your name in mind in case. :)

That's alright.
