Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Hace poco ví los Golden Globes y me enteré de que la película A Real Pain estaba concursando para un premio, lo que me llamo la atención fue que el protagonista de la historia de esta película es Kieran Culkin quien ya había conocido por la serie Succession la cual fue una de las mejores series de drama que he visto y que aún recuerdo a pesar de que soy bastante olvidadiza. En fin, me emocionó la idea de ver a Kieran en una nueva producción como protagonista y además de una historia de drama, dónde parte de su historia es sobre sus problemas emocionales.
Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community, I hope you are doing well today. I recently watched the Golden Globes and found out that the movie A Real Pain was competing for an award, what caught my attention was that the protagonist of the story of this movie is Kieran Culkin who I had already known from the series Succession which was one of the best drama series I've seen and I still remember even though I'm quite forgetful. Anyway, I was excited to see Kieran in a new production as the main character and in addition to a drama story, where part of his story is about his emotional problems.
La trama nos cuenta la historia de Benji (Kieran Culkin) y David (Jesse Eisenberg) dos primos que se reencuentran para despedir a su abuela visitando su antigua casa ubicada en Polonia, ambos llevan mucho tiempo sin saber del otro y toman la decisión de irse en una excursión para conocer el lugar que vio nacer a su abuela y que además fue víctima de muertes de miles de personas debido a la guerra. En el camino tanto Benji como David se unen para recordar los momentos que pasaron con su abuela, pero también para revivir recuerdos difíciles del pasado de Benji y de cómo David se preocupa de manera desproporcional por su primo a quien considera una de las personas más reales y graciosas del mundo aunque Benji no siente que esas características estén en el debido a sus problemas emocionales, los cuales lo llevaron a tomar decisiones drásticas que lo siguen hasta el día de hoy estando al lado de su primo.
The plot tells the story of Benji (Kieran Culkin) and David (Jesse Eisenberg) two cousins who meet again to say goodbye to their grandmother visiting her old house located in Poland, both have not heard from each other for a long time and decide to go on an excursion to see the place where their grandmother was born and was also the victim of deaths of thousands of people due to the war. On the way both Benji and David come together to remember the moments they spent with their grandmother, but also to relive difficult memories of Benji's past and how David cares disproportionately for his cousin whom he considers one of the most real and funny people in the world although Benji does not feel that those characteristics are in him due to his emotional problems, which led him to make drastic decisions that follow him to this day being at his cousin's side.
Esta película nos muestra con muchos detalles el lugar de nacimiento de la abuela de Benji y David que es Polonia, una tierra que sufrió los estragos de la guerra y la muerte de manera brutal debido a los deseos de apoderarse del lugar. Podemos ver que Polonia en la actualidad conserva muchos de los lugares donde eran humillados y masacrados los habitantes y además queda el recuerdo en cada lugar de lo terrible que es vivir la destrucción total de hogares y familias que eran inocentes. Polonia es un lugar que además de tener muchos recuerdos de la guerra, posee paisajes increíbles y que te hacen sentir que es un lugar muy bonito y además muy tranquilo a pesar de la historia que lleva a cuestas. Las escenas fueron grabadas de una excelente manera sobre todo enfocándose en los momentos importantes como mencionar que la abuela de Benji y David vivió su juventud en un lugar donde pudo haber Sido una víctima más de la muerte pero que milagrosamente logró salir con vida.
This film shows us in great detail the birthplace of Benji and David's grandmother which is Poland, a land that suffered the ravages of war and death in a brutal way due to the desire to take over the place. We can see that Poland today retains many of the places where the inhabitants were humiliated and massacred and also remains the memory in each place of how terrible it is to live the total destruction of homes and families who were innocent. Poland is a place that besides having many memories of the war, has incredible landscapes that make you feel that it is a very beautiful place and also very quiet despite the history that carries on its back. The scenes were filmed in an excellent way, especially focusing on the important moments such as mentioning that Benji and David's grandmother lived her youth in a place where she could have been one more victim of death but miraculously managed to get out alive.
La relación de Benji con David es compleja pero muy cercana, ambos comparten recuerdos de estar juntos siendo unos niños y de cómo su abuela era una persona de carácter fuerte y de decir las verdades en la cara, estos recuerdos hacen que ambos se sientan unidos casi como hermanos pero hay algo más que refleja el nombre de la película y es el dolor que puede llevar un ser humano a cuestas y que simplemente convierte su vida en un mundo gris lleno de dolor, eso es lo que sucede con Benji quien es un hombre que aparenta ser agradable y con una actitud decidida además de poseer un buen sentido del humor, pero detrás de todo esto se esconde el Benji que sufre profundamente y que esto lo llevo en algún momento a atentar contra su vida, esto es algo que David no ha podido superar y lo muestran en la película, el siempre intentando rescatar o mantener a salvo a Benji porque es su familia pero más que eso porque lo ama y se preocupa profundamente por su estabilidad emocional.
Benji's relationship with David is complex but very close, both share memories of being together as children and how his grandmother was a person of strong character and tell the truths in the face, these memories make them both feel united almost like brothers but there is something else that reflects the name of the film and is the pain that can carry a human being on his back and that simply turns his life into a gray world full of pain, That is what happens with Benji who is a man who appears to be nice and with a determined attitude and has a good sense of humor, but behind all this hides the Benji who suffers deeply and that this led him at some point to attempt against his life, this is something that David has not been able to overcome and show it in the film, always trying to rescue or keep Benji safe because he is his family but more than that because he loves him and cares deeply for his emotional stability.
La historia está bastante bien porque es corta y no alargaron mucho las escenas, pero hay algo que no me gustó y es que no se enfocaron en hablar a profundidad sobre el dolor que lleva Benji y que lo hace sentir miserable, siento que si hubieran desarrollado más su historia o explicado de alguna forma el por qué de su comportamiento y decisiones entonces pudo haber sido una mejor película, porque ambos actores son bastante buenos y congeniaron en la película como familia pero ese punto del desequilibrio emocional es algo que no se llegó a explicar y que te deja pensando al final sobre que fue lo que sucedió en la vida de Benji más allá de que en la actualidad sienta una profunda tristeza por la reciente perdida de su difunta abuela.
The story is pretty good because it is short and they didn't make the scenes too long, but there is something that I didn't like and that is that they didn't focus on talking in depth about the pain that Benji carries and that makes him feel miserable, I feel that if they had developed his story more or explained in some way the reason for his behavior and decisions then it could have been a better movie, because both actors are pretty good and they clicked in the movie as a family but that point of the emotional imbalance is something that was not explained and leaves you wondering at the end what happened in Benji's life beyond the fact that he is currently feeling a deep sadness for the recent loss of his late grandmother.
Por supuesto destaco la actuación de Kieran Culkin donde hizo su papel muy real de manera que no parece una actuación ya que el tiene esta personalidad de ser muy honesta y a la vez divertido cuando lo he visto en algunos premios o entrevistas. El papel de Jesse fue bueno pero no me impresionó o sentí una conexión con él supongo que es porque la película además de ser de drama es de comedia entonces no se toman muy en serio los temas relacionados a la salud mental como es en el caso de la vida de Benji, sin embargo no es una mala película solo que no hay mucha sorpresa en cuanto la vez y no tiene algo que te diga que es diferente al resto o especial. Me alegra que Kieran Culkin este recibiendo nominaciones por su personaje porque el es un actor que tiene potencial tanto para la comedia como para el drama, así como su personaje en la serie Succession que sufrió fuertemente por su relación con su padre. En fin, si ya vieron la película me gustaría que me dejaran en los comentarios su opinión al respecto. 🙂
Of course I highlight Kieran Culkin's performance where he made his role very real in a way that doesn't seem like an act as he has this personality of being very honest yet funny when I've seen him in some awards or interviews. Jesse's role was good but I wasn't impressed or felt a connection with him I guess it's because the movie besides being a drama it's a comedy so they don't take mental health related issues too seriously as it is in the case of Benji's life, however it's not a bad movie there just isn't much surprise as soon as you watch it and it doesn't have something that tells you it's different from the rest or special. I'm glad Kieran Culkin is getting nominations for his character because he is an actor who has potential for both comedy and drama, just like his character in the Succession series who suffered heavily from his relationship with his father. I haven't seen "A Real Pain" but I find the premise and especially the focus on family relationships and emotional problems interesting. I think Kieran Culkin is a very talented actor so I'm sure his performance is solid.
