As human beings, we are bound to think in a certain way, making us very predictable. We like feeling in charge of every situation, even ones that are clearly beyond what we can handle.
Drug cartels exist and are very much part of our society no matter how hard we try to deny it or wish them out of existence. We do things out of pride, passion, want, need, power, etc. Any of the above can be a reason why we do some of the things we do.
I have been hearing about drug cartels since I was young through various means such as radio, TV, newspapers, and directly from people. Miss Bala tells an interesting story about drugs and power.
The movie Miss Bala started with Glory crossing the border between USA and Mexico. She was checked in at the border and then she continued her journey to her friend's house. She finally got to the house where she met her friend, Suzu, and her brother Chava. She got the boy a toy which he really liked.
The next day, Gloria and her friend went to register for the miss Bala California pageantry. After Gloria helped her friend complete her registration, they went clubbing later in the night, and in the process, they met the police chief, who they intended to use his help to facilitate Suzu's application. The police chief showed strong sexual feelings towards Gloria but she did not feel the same way. Gloria went to the bathroom to ease herself and in the process, she met some members of Los Estrellas. Gloria was warded off with a gun eventually. The cartel members went into the club and opened fire and in the process, Suzu was abducted.
Gloria woke up the next morning in a cafe where she saw some police officers and decided to give an eyewitness account of what had transpired the previous night. A cop carried her and claimed to be taking her to the station to make a statement only for him to drive her to the headquarters of the cartel where she was abducted just like her friend Suzu. Lino, a member of the cartel, sent her on a mission. She was sent to drive a car loaded with explosives to a neighborhood, which she did, and after that, Lino set off the bomb remotely with a controller.
Lino started developing feelings for Gloria but Gloria could not resist because she was held against her will and on the condition that they would help her find her friend after they had finished using her for that drug arrangement.
In order for Gloria to find her friend, she had to become a contestant in the competition, which she did. She was able to find her friend and take her home after the contest but in the end, the police chief and Lino both lost their lives.
Gloria went on to become an informant for the DEA to help infiltrate and take down more drug cartels.
Drug cartels are known to do unspeakable things and they always resort to violence when there is obviously no need for it. Some of the things we see are not really how they appear.
