Introduction
I just saw spiderman no way home and I'm here to tell you all about it.. yunno spoilers and all..
So last week a close friend of my invited me to celebrate the success of her exams by escorting her to go see spiderman no way home.. Medical school exams are no joke and every single semester exams you pass are a big deal. It's like each hurdle you pass through in the form of the exams inch you one step closer to your dreams of being a doctor and that my dear friends is no small feat.. at all..
I pushed the day of the appointment to a week after cause both my sister and my mom were sick so I had to basically stick around and watch them but thank God for God like we say here in my dear country they got better and the day to see the movie came. At this point I just want to apologize for not having any pictures of me in the cinema cause I personally feel that sharing pictures of outings of social media is highly overrated and it ruins the authenticity of the experience. I myself don't really enjoy going out that much, as I very much prefer sitting at home and working on whatever stuff at my own pace but as is the case i would make an exception for friends in this case the exception being Spiderman no way home.
So that's the set up to what brought me out to see this film and if I do say so myself. THIS FILM IS EASILY THE BEST MARVEL FILM THIS YEAR. Yeah I know a lot of people say that and it is a bold claim to make when I haven't yet seen the eternals movie but from the reviews I've seen on the film (the eternals) it seems it didn't meet up with expectation. Now with that said let's dive right in into Spiderman no way home analysis, deconstruction, story, spoilers and all and if you haven't seen spoilers for this film What rock are you living under? I searched for the spoilers the week it hit the cinema.. c'mon don't be a pussy read the post and get in vogue
The Story
The plot continues right from where spiderman far from home stopped with the revelation of spiderman's identity as Peter Parker by Mysterio and ohh by the way I really didn't like spiderman far from home I personally thought of it as one of marvel's weaker films just putting out there. J.J.Jonas the news reporter who really despises spiderman immediately reports in on his news channel and all of a sudden the narrative is twisted to spiderman murders public hero Mysterio with Tony Stark tech and he is branded as number one public enemy in New York and this is just a movie after he fought with the avengers to stop the threat of Thanos, can you imagine that. Peter's life all of a sudden is turned upside down as his life as Peter Parker which he wanted to keep private is now all of sudden made known to the entire public. Worst of all the lives of the people he loves are also roped into the whole mess. Fortunately he is cleared of all charges thanks yo his capable lawyer Matt Freaking Murdoch.. yes guys Daredevil makes a cameo in this movie and best of all the guy who played him in the Netflix series retained his role as Daredevil which means guys... 😖😖 There's a possibility of having Jon Berthanl's Frank Castle in the MCU.. You have no idea how happy that makes 😖😖😖

(I mean guys imagine this on the big screen bro)
Yeah so the story goes on, Matt catches this bric midair as it is thrown straight into their apartment and it's heading for Peter's head coincidentally Peter also stretches to catch it midair about Matt beats him to it, puzzled he asks how did you do that to which matt simply smiles. Eventually Peter and his friends try to go on with life while still dealing with backlash frol the public. Now I can't get into details of how weird and hard it is for them but the movie does well to make a light situation out of it while still trying to maintain the severity of the situation and it does put some really comedic scenes in there that in my opinion work well an are justified because you know, it's a spiderman film, it's supposed to be light-hearted plus we have some melancholy waiting for us ahead. Peter, M.J and Ned all graduate from highschool and apply to colleges and their dream college is MIT however because of the controversy they've all gotten themselves into their applications are denied and that's when it really gets to Peter. He believes it's his fault that all this misfortune has come to his friends and family and so he decides to go see Doctor Strange to try to fix it. When he gets there he's able to get a spell that would make everyone forget that Peter Parker is spiderman.. Unfortunately he botches the spell twice when he interferes twice and apparently because of this a tear in the multiverse occurs and other characters from the other universes start entering the MCU. But here's the thing, I don't think Doctor Strange's spell fractured the multiverse I think Loki is responsible for that. Well I wish I could explain that here but I don't have time for that now. All I'll say is go see the Loki series it would help you understand better and watch out for the color purple 🟣
So Doctor Strange is able to contain the spell into a mystic box but some villains have already crossed over to the MCU from other Marvel films. We got Doc Oc, Green goblin, Sand man, Electro and Lizard all out here looking for my boy spider man and worst of all Strange wants to send them all back into their respective universes where they will all die fighting Spiderman but of course Spiderman being the good guy that he is, isn't down to let that happen to them. Fast forward to the second act Peter beats Strange and tries to cure all the villans but he's plan is screwed and Aunt May dies...... Yes Aunt May dies after she says does famous lines With great power comes great responsibility.. You know someone's about to die in a Spiderman film when they say those words you just know it. So aunt May dies Peter is completely distraught and is out to kill the villans responsible for it when get this..... The OG spidermen come to stop him from getting revenge.. I lost my marbles when I saw them on screen.. I was so so happy. They are able to calm MCU Spiderman down and come up with a plan to capture all the villans and cure them. So one thing leads to the other, their plans work, Doctor Strange is able to stop the multiverse from breaking into the MCU and everybody forgets that MCU Peter Parker is Spiderman.
Yeah I know it's a lot to take it and it all sounds nuts but there is a lot of details I left out in the story because I need you to enjoy the full extent of this film for your self trust me it was awesome.. Now let's get into the deconstruction of this film
The Structure and Pacing
I've only seen this movie once and unlike all the other films I have reviewed on this blog, this is the first film cinema film I'm reviewing here and what this means is that I've only seen this film once, and I am currently reviewing based of off my memory, unlike other films I review where I've have the opportunity to see it as many times as possible SNWH doesn't come on Blu-ray until about April or so. Therefore I don't really have a choice as I wouldn't be able to eat until then to review this film. That being said imma be honest with you the pacing and structure of this film worked absolutely well with the story being told, matter of fact I believe that if it was done another way this film would have been poorly executed. The pacing is very quick and events happen in short time, this is not the case throughout the film however it is unique to the first act of the film. From the moment we pick off from where we ended in part 2, everything is happening in such a fast pace that the audience isn't given time to process the magnitude of what's really happening and how big of deal it is. Heck the tone of the first is completely paradoxical to the situation our hero and his family find themselves.

Spiderman's identify has jus being revealed his whole world is about to turn upside down however his principal and school mates still joke about it. Even though some people may fault it, I think that it actually works from the story because the paradox of the situation in act one is what sets up the events for act two where the tone changes and things get more dark and serious. By the time we conclude the second act everyone in the cinema is left sad and angry and that's when the tension built in the first act pays off. As MCU spiderman comes to learn, "No good deed goes unpunished" which is supposed to be an antithesis ton"No bad deed goes unpunished" (correct me if I'm wrong)
It's at this point in the conclusion of the second act that the pace really slows down, the tone changes from happy to sober and we witness the redefining moment of our once friendly neighbourhood Spiderman into the tragic hero who is cursed with the burden of losing the people you love as the price of heroism and to guide him into this rite of passage are the two original spidermen who have come to this realisation in their respective universes. It's a familiar sight for the people who who have followed all the Spiderman films in the past and as much as it is a heart wrenching sight to see, it's one we are glad to see because we know it to be the redefining point for our friendly neighbourhood Spiderman. The structure is also designed in such a way that it accommodates all the characters introduced to the story and though it allows for some to shine more than others, the primary nature and motivations of these characters are encapsulated just enough for each of them to work in the story even though some shine more than others but it still works as a whole.
Themes and Characters
There are a couple of themes that stand out in this film from themes of growth, to how choices consequences are what define the blur, flexible dichotomy between good and evil, heros and villans. For example when Peter successful cures Doc Oc only for Green Goblin to possess Norman Osborne to reck the place an kill Aunt May, he decides he is going to send everyone back to meet their fate. It's a point where he has to make a choice to either let the anger and rage drive him into becoming a villain or choose to be the hero. The reason why he stays the path is simply because in this moment he wasn't alone and he had the company of friends and "experts" by experts I mean the veteran spidermen. If any of the other people who turned out to be villans have the kind of support that he had in this moment maybe they wouldn't have turned out so bad and that's where we see the line get blur in the choices characters make

Concerning the characters for me the stand out character was William Defoe's portrayal as Green Goblin and Norman Osbourne. There's just this way he contorts his face when he makes that personality switch that evil manical smile that stretches from end to end when he says no good deed goes unpunished or God's don't ask they take. It reminded me of why he was that terrifying in the first Spiderman film, like if they had made him the only villans of this film it would have worked perfectly well. For me he was the stand out character. Others did put a good job Andrew Garfield's Spiderman definitely stole the show and of course Tobey Maguire seemed so calm, self-assured and happy in this film. Like he was still Spiderman but a Spiderman who's older, more experienced and happier just like he looked. It was awesome seeing him.

I really liked this film and like I said I think it was the best Marvel film this year maybe the best Marvel film since Endgame. It got a lot of things right and a few things wrong. It did also leave me with a lot of questions, questions I hope will get answered in the coming MCU films, like when will Ned finally become a sorcerer, who broke the multiverse, where is Dormamu (ok scrap that last question). My point is for the last decade all of the MCU films have had a connection to each other bring together this wonderful cinematic masterpiece but this movie is different in the sense that this is the first time that two big studios are having their characters cross over and it's a freaking big deal especially if you are a nerd and a movie lover like me who has fantasizes about the potential of such crossovers. Imagine if one day DC and Marvel crossover on the big screen and we finally get to see the Darkseid vs Thanos argument squashed once and for all.. Yeah that's how far I'm taking this but anyway that still a long time away.... Or is it?
