Hello, How are you guys ?
I'm a great fan of cinema and I'm always looking for different movies and series to watch and today I'll talk about one of the greatest movies ever made. It has influenced a lot of other artists for almost 50 years now and I'm pretty sure there'll be a lot of things you will recognize because the several ways Alejandro Jodorowsky touched people's minds and careers along his journey.
Whenever I introduce Alejandro Jodorowsky for anybody I always feel this lack of words to explain his talent. He's a french-chilean writer, actor, director and also very esoteric. All of his work is very based on the occult, the mystic and in The Holy Mountain he explore a lot of the principles of the alchemy, hermetics and tarot to conduce us through this incredible story using a lot of symbols and signs that will get you amazed.
The movie is about a group of people planning to heist the knowledge of the 9 wise who live on the top of Holy Mountain. And the search begins....
Jodorowsky uses the signs or ages of the zodiac to represent each one of these characters. you'll see that they will introduce themselves telling about how their worlds are and how it works. Basically, i'll poorly introduce like this because here comes what really matters...
The journey to find the Holy Mountain.
There are several holy mountains in a lot of cultures, so the master of the group (Jodorowsky himself is playing this character called The Alchemist) explain to them about his beliefs and initiates his army to prepare them to their journey. Each one of them have fears, desires, traumas and things that they have to surpass. So during the whole movie their egos will be tested.
There are a lot of controversial and polemics over a lot of things in this movie but it totally worth watching. It has very strong visuals as you can see but you got hear it as well, the soundtrack is as good as the visuals.
Anyways...
I guess i'll never know enough about Jodorowsky and all of his work. He worked with very important people and even Jean Giraud (Moebius). The Incal was one of their work together.
But they also had another thing together and this one is very special because if it really had happened the mainstream world of sci-fi would be complete different. watch THIS.
And for the Pop-Culture...
MGMT were high influenced by The Holy Mountain to make the video clip of Time to pretend.
Also Travis Scott did a great reference to it in his video clip of Franchise.
And you can see the reference in Zella Day's Hypnotic. Which also has a lot of other references like Clouzot's L'enfern.
Anyways, this was my quick suggestion for you guys.
I hope you guys enjoy this movie as much as i do and come back here to tell me what you think about it!

Jodorowsky is great! and one of the finest surrealists ever.
His El Topo and Santa Sangre are also equally noteworthy, El Topo probably even more.
Thanks for the write up. :)
