Naruto is a manga series by Masashi Kishimoto which was adapted into an anime series. The Naruto manga tells about the life of the main character, Naruto Uzumaki, a hyperactive, cheerful, and ambitious ninja who wants to fulfill his desire to get the title of Hokage, the leader and the strongest ninja in his village. The series is based on a one-shot comic by Kishimoto that was published in the August 1997 issue of Akamaru Jump.

The Naruto manga was first published in Japan by Shueisha in 1999 in the 43rd issue of Shonen Jump magazine. In Indonesia, the manga is published by Elex Media Komputindo. The popularity and length of the Naruto series itself (especially in Japan) rivals Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball, while the Naruto anime series, produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex, premiered in Japan by the TV Tokyo network as well as by anime-only satellite television networks, such as Animax. and other television stations, on October 3, 2002 until now. The first series consisted of 9 seasons and lasted 220 episodes. The first season of the second series began airing on February 15, 2007. In Indonesia alone, the Naruto anime was broadcast by the television station Trans TV, which was later aired by GTV and briefly aired on Indosiar for the fourth and fifth seasons until the fifth season of Naruto Shippuden. In addition to the anime series, Studio Pierrot has developed eight films for the series and several original video animations (OVAs). Types of merchandise include light novels, video games and card collections developed by several companies.

Viz Media licenses North American manga and anime production. Viz has published the series in their magazine Shonen Jump, as well as several volumes. The anime series began airing in the United States and Canada in 2005, and then in the United Kingdom and Australia in 2006 and 2007. The film, as well as several OVAs from the series, have also been released by Viz, with theater premieres. The first DVD volume of Naruto: Shippuden was released by Viz in North America on September 29, 2009, and began broadcasting on Disney XD in October of the same year. Naruto Shippuden premiered on Adult Swim, Toonami in January 2014. Viz Media began streaming both series on their Neon Alley streaming service in December 2012.
