It's been a long time since I was subjected to such a boring movie, seriously, if I didn't fall asleep while watching this film it was only because I had my little brother next to me singing at the top of his lungs and in very bad English the songs of the movie.
Sing 2 is neither good nor bad, it's just more of the same. It is, as the title says, the art of recycling the plot. But first of all, let's get into context.
The sequel to Sing (2016) tells us the story of Boster Moon and his friends after regaining their theater and becoming a hit musical in their small town. The problems begin when a talent scout (or producer actually I did not quite understand what it was) tells them that he does not have enough to enter the big leagues, Buster is determined to prove that if they can make it and how does he intend to prove it? Well, by deceiving a psychopathic billionaire tycoon to perform a musical with Clay Calloway! Which, it should be noted, hasn't been seen in 15 years.
We're just getting started and we're off to a bad start, because I'm sure no one in their right mind would arbitrarily decide to perform a musical with a bunch of strangers who claim to know a celebrity who hasn't been seen in years. But well, I have to remember that this is a film aimed at a children's audience so it's not going to have much logic.
I liked the first movie a lot, Sing was nothing innovative (there are already many animated musicals) but it had its charm and using such famous songs was helpful in a way. And since that formula worked for them in the first movie, they decided to use the same technique in the second one, which results in a movie that doesn't innovate at all, beyond having a real villain and a terrible fan service towards Porsha (let's not fool ourselves, they knew what they were doing when they designed this character).
Her story has nothing remarkable as it doesn't get out of the mechanics of the previous film which is limited in the practices for the musical, Boster trying to hold the lie and help a character overcome some fear or crisis (in this case that character was Rosita). I could highlight the subplot that focuses on Clay Calloway, but it's just so irrelevant, it's so easy to overlook.
Obviously, although the things I don't like about this installment are the most predominant details, I want to highlight two little things. The songs (still amazing, nothing more to say) and its villain. The villain in the previous movie was the bank (any resemblance to reality is mere coincidence), in this movie he is a billionaire tycoon and the only reason I like him is because he executes his role as God intended.
Being someone who lacks empathy (even with his own daughter), showing the double face and willing to do anything to get what he wants, and when I say anything, I mean anything!
And now the issue that makes me most uncomfortable: what was the hype with Clay Calloway, is it because he is played by Chayanne? If it's because of that then this character didn't deserve that hype. Yes, his story is very sad and all you want, but they treat him in such a sloppy and uninteresting way that it's impossible to feel anything about it. And if you think Clay's subplot is irrelevant, imagine the other characters.
Sing 2
Johnny's problem and the dancing, Rosita and her fear of heights, Meena and her imaginary romance with the ice cream man (by scandal the most unnecessary subplot of all), they're all irrelevant. And actually, the subplots as such are not my problem, the problem is the way they are treated, none of them are given their time to develop thoroughly and leaving everything halfway to magically fix everything at the end.
In summary, Sing 2 is not a movie that I enjoyed as such, I like the songs, it is undeniable that the actors have amazing voices, but beyond that Sing 2 is not funny. It's the same deck of cards over and over again.

Hace mucho tiempo que no me sometía a una película tan aburrida, enserio, si no me dormí mientras veía este film fue únicamente por que tenía a mi hermanito a mi lado cantando a todo pulmón y en un muy mal ingles las canciones de la película.
Sing 2, no es buena ni mala, es simplemente más de lo mismo. Es, como dice el título, el arte de reciclar la trama. Pero antes que nada entremos en contexto.
La secuela de Sing (2016) nos cuenta la historia de Boster Moon y sus amigos tras recuperar su teatro y convertirse en todo un éxito de los musicales en su pequeña ciudad. Los problemas comienzan cuando una cazatalentos (o productora en realidad no entendí muy bien que era) les dice que no tiene lo suficiente para entrar a las grandes ligas, Buster se empeña en demostrar que si pueden lograrlo ¿Y cómo pretende demostrarlo? ¡Pues engañando a magnate multimillonario psicópata para realizar un musical con Clay Calloway! Que cabe destacar, no ha sido visto en 15 años.
Apenas empezamos y empezamos mal, porque estoy segura de que nadie en su sano juicio decide arbitrariamente realizar un musical con una banda de extraños que aseguran conocer a un famoso al que no se le ha visto en años. Pero bueno, he de recordar que esta es una película dirigida a un público infantil por lo tanto mucha lógica no va a poseer.
A mí me gustó mucho la primera película, Sing no era nada innovador (ya existen muchos musicales animados) pero tenía su encanto y usar canciones tan famosas le fue de ayuda de cierta forma. Y como esa fórmula les funciono en la primera película, decidieron emplear la misma técnica en la segunda, lo que da como resultado una película que no innova en nada, más allá de tener un verdadero villano y un terrible fan servirse hacia Porsha (no nos engañemos, ellos sabían lo que estaban haciendo cuando diseñaban a este personaje).
Su historia no tiene nada destacable ya que no sale de la mecánica de la película anterior que se limita en las prácticas para el musical, Boster tratando de sostener la mentira y ayudar a un personaje a superar algún miedo o crisis (en este caso ese personaje fue Rosita). Podría destacar la sub trama que se centra en Clay Calloway, pero es que es muy irrelevante, es muy fácil pasarla desapercibida.
Obviamente, aunque las cosas que no me agradan sobre esta entregan son los detalles más predominantes, quiero destacar dos cositas. Las canciones (siguen siendo asombrosas, no hay nada más que decir) y su villano. El villano de la anterior película era el banco (cualquier parecido con la realidad es mera coincidencia), en esta película es un magnate multimillonario y la unica razon por la que me agrada es porque ejecuta su papel como Dios manda.
Siendo alguien carente de empatía (incluso con su propia hija), marcando lo doble cara y dispuesto a lo que sea para conseguir lo que quiere, y cuando digo lo que sea, es ¡lo que sea!
Y ahora el tema que más me incomoda: ¿cuál era el hype con Clay Calloway? ¿Es por qué lo interpreta Chayanne? Si es por eso pues entonces este personaje no se merecía ese hype. Si, su historia es muy triste y todo lo que tú quieras, pero lo tratan de una manera tan descuidada y carente de interés que es imposible sentir algo al respecto. Y si creen que la subtrama de Clay es irrelevante, imagínense la de los demás personajes.
Sing 2
El problema de Johnny y el baile, Rosita y su miedo a las alturas, Meena y su romance imaginario con el heladero (por escandalo la subtrama más innecesaria de todas), todas son irrelevantes. Y en realidad las subtramas como tal no son mi problema, el problema es la forma en la que son tratadas, a ninguna se les da su tiempo de desarrollarse a fondo y dejando todo a medias para mágicamente al final arreglar todo.
En resumen, pues Sing 2 no es una película que haya disfrutado como tal, me gustan sus canciones, es innegable que los actores tienen voces sorprendentes, pero más allá de esto Sing 2 no tiene gracia. Es la misma baraja repetida.
