Greetings, beautiful people of the Internet.
I've been missing for a while because my university knows no limits and I think that instead of students we are some kinds of slaves. After finishing some pending I decided to take a break, I took some candy and I set out to look for something good to watch on Netflix (which is difficult since the catalog in Latin America is very small compared to the USA) and the first thing that came out when I entered my session was that The Cuphead Show, the new Netflix animated series based on the game Cuphead released in 2017, had already been released.
I didn't think twice before getting comfortable and starting to watch the series and what can I tell you? It's very good, it's more than I expected.
For no one is a mystery that video game adaptations to series or movies in most cases nothing comes out well clear that there are exceptions, as are Arcane and Castlevania, but it is still a very small percentage of successes. Therefore, I went in with some fear to see Cuphead, but as I said before I liked it more than expected.
Story
The story of this series is something we have already seen in other series of the same genre. Two brothers, Cuphead and Mugman reside in a fantastic and cartoonish world, where they live funny and hilarious adventures together, meeting friends and enemies alike, among them stands out The Devil who is obsessed with getting Cuphead's soul failing in each and every one of his attempts. It is very similar to what Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Star vs. the forces of evil and a long etcetera did.
Let's go by parts, I'll start by saying that I really like the format of the series is something that fits very well under its concept, with chapters that have no relationship as such with each other, beyond having the Devil and his minions as the main enemies.
Another interesting aspect of its story and what caught my attention during the first chapter is that this series is independent of the game, it was something strange to assimilate since I swore that this series would be post Cuphead (video game), this is not an aspect that I really dislike, on the contrary, I think it was a wise decision since many times continuing the story outside the video game is not the most feasible, a clear example of this is Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.
The Cuphead Show
Moving on to another point, The Cuphead Show is a series with a film humor so to speak. It's a pretty black comedy in my opinion (or at least in my opinion since I've asked friends and they don't quite agree with me) it's also quite true that it's very over water, but there's this one! There are jokes about dismemberment, cannibalism and even at some point both protagonists seem to die. It's something I didn't expect to see in a series supposedly aimed at a children's audience, but as I said before it's very over water it can easily go unnoticed, if you're not an overly analytical person like me.
Animation and soundtrack
One of the aspects that I liked the least while I was watching the series was its animation, don't get me wrong, I think it is very well done, objectively speaking its animation is gorgeous, the palette of bright and strong colors combines very well with the aesthetics of the world where the story takes place. But it is also true that I miss the vibe and animation inspired by the 30's used in the video game, in the series they tried to replicate what they did in the video game, but modernized.
The music section is very good, I am not an expert in this matter so I will give only my opinion, the songs are very good, with a catchy rhythm and, very dynamic and well put together choreographies. However, this may sound picky, but they don't sound very good in their dubbing, I think that not only the songs but the series in general should be seen in its original language to make it more enjoyable.
Conclusion
The Cuphead Show is a very good and entertaining series, which manages a very unique humor and beautiful animation. It is a series with short chapters that can perfectly be watched in an afternoon with friends. I highly recommend it; you will not regret it. The only thing I can recommend is to watch it in its original language.

Estuve un tiempo desaparecida debido a que mi Universidad no conoce límites y a de pensar que en lugar de estudiantes somos una especie de esclavos. Luego de terminar algunos pendientes decidí tomar un descanso, tomé algunos dulces y me dispuse a buscar algo bueno que ver en Netflix (lo cual es difícil ya que el catálogo de Latinoamérica es muy reducido comparado con el de USA) y lo primero que me salió al entrar en mi sesión fue que ya se había estrenado The Cuphead Show, la nueva serie animada de Netflix basada en el juego Cuphead estrenado en 2017.
No lo pensé dos veces antes de ponerme cómoda y empezar a ver la serie y ¿qué les puedo decir? Es muy buena, es más de lo que esperaba.
Para nadie es un misterio que las adaptaciones de videojuegos a series o películas en su mayoría de casos no sale nada bien claro que existen excepciones, como lo son Arcane y Castlevania, pero sigue siendo un porcentaje muy pequeño de éxitos. Por consiguiente, entre con algo de miedo a ver Cuphead, pero como ya he dicho anteriormente me gusto más de lo esperado.
Historia
La historia de esta serie es algo que ya hemos visto en otras series de su mismo género. Dos hermanos, Cuphead y Mugman residen en un mundo fantástico y caricaturesco, donde viven divertidas y desopilantes aventuras junto, conociendo amigos y enemigos por igual, entre ellos destaca El Diablo quien se obsesiona con obtener el alma de Cuphead fallando en todos y cada uno de sus intentos. Es muy parecido a lo que hicieron Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Star vs las fuerzas del mal y un largo etcetera.
Vayamos por partes, empezaré diciendo que me gusta mucho el formato de la serie es algo que queda muy bien bajo su concepto, con capítulos que no tiene una relación como tal entre sí, más allá de tener al Diablo y sus secuaces como enemigos principales.
Otro aspecto interesante de su historia y lo que llamo mi atención durante el primer capítulo es que esta serie es independiente del juego, fue algo raro de asimilar ya que yo juraba que esta serie seria post Cuphead (videojuego), esto no es un aspecto que en realidad me disguste, todo lo contrario, pienso que fue una decision acertada ya que muchas veces continuar la historia fuera del videojuego no es lo más factible, un claro ejemplo de esto es Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.
The Cuphead Show
Pasando a otro punto, The Cuphead Show es una serie con un humor pelicular por así decirlo. Es una comedia bastante negra a mi parecer (o al menos a mi parecer ya que he preguntado a amigos y no están muy de acuerdo conmigo) también es bastante cierto que está muy pasado por agua, pero ¡Hay esta! Hay chistes sobre desmembramiento, canibalismo y hasta en algún punto ambos protagonistas parecen morir. Es algo que no esperaba ver en una serie supuestamente dirigida a un público infantil, pero como dije antes está muy pasado por agua puede pasar desapercibido fácilmente, si no eres una persona demasiado analítica como yo.
Animación y soundtrack
Uno de los aspectos que menos me gusto mientras estaba viendo la serie era su animación, no me malinterpreten, pienso que está muy bien hecha, objetivamente hablando su animación es bellísima, la paleta de colores vivos y fuertes combina muy bien con la estética del mundo donde se desarrolla la historia. Pero también es cierto que extraño mucho la vibra y la animación inspirada en los 30's utilizado en el videojuego, en la serie intentaron replicar lo que hicieron en el videojuego, pero modernizado.
El apartado musical es muy bueno, no soy una experta en esta materia así que dare únicamente mi opinión, las canciones son muy buenas, con un ritmo pegadizo y, coreografías muy dinámicas y bien armadas. Sin embargo, esto tal vez suene quisquilloso, pero no suenan muy bien en su doblaje, pienso que no solo las canciones si no la serie en general debe verse en su idioma original para que sea más disfrutable.
Conclusión
The Cuphead Show es una serie muy buena y entretenida, que maneja un humor muy único y una animación preciosa. Es una serie con capítulos cortos que perfectamente puede verse en una tarde con amigos. Se las recomiendo mucho, no se van a arrepentir. Lo único que les puedo recomendar es verla en su idioma original.

La serie es una maravilla técnica dentro de su simpleza, vi muchas críticas respecto a su trama tan sencilla pero siento que funciona bien dentro el formato, es ligera y entretenida, a mi parecer representa bien el videojuego.
La simpleza de su trama es lo que la hace tan buena, una trama más compleja hubiera quedado bien si no existiera el videojuego pero ese no es el caso, así que considero que hacer una trama sensilla fue una decisión acertada.
He querido ver esta serie con mi hermano, él jugó el videojuego en el que está basado y yo estaba esperando a ver si valía la pena decirle. Como tengo estos días libres (te entiendo lo que dijiste sobre la universidad), me sentaré a verla, la animación me atrae <3
No dudes en verla como dije su animación es hermosa, hay mucha comedia y lo más importante cumple con su objetivo, entretener. Así que tu y tu hermano asalten la cocina en busca de dulce y veanla, se divertida mucho jajaja.
Creo que aún no he visto un dibujo animado que primero haya sido un videojuego, más bien me pasaba al contrario, los dibujos animados los terminaban haciendo videojuegos jejejeje pero en realidad nunca los he visto porque no han llamado mi atención hasta el momento, por ejemplo llegue a jugar Sonic pero hasta ahora no he visto su película, tengo que sentarme un día y darle la oportunidad para saber si me gusta, pero por tu reseña se ve que es bastante interesante la historia.
