Dear Hivers,
Have you ever seen a movie that made you start thinking about life and what it's worth?
A movie that makes you ask questions like:
What does life really mean? What is my purpose? Why do bad things happen to good people?
Have you ever seen a movie that got you so emotional, you couldn't help but cry your eyes out? Yet you still go back to said film and watch it over and over again still, and it crushes your heart every time?
Very few movies have made me feel this way and Clouds is sure to top of the list. 2nd only to the great faults in our stars.
I've always thought I was hard and would barely cry over a movie but this film got me wailing like a baby.
Don't get me wrong! It isn't just a movie with a tragic end — if you ask me, I'll say the end was way far from tragic.
It's a very emotional movie but full of optimism, positivity, and ambition... you name it!
So here is my honest review and perhaps a little bit of a spoiler 😉.
About the Movie
The movie was based on true life events, it was about the story of Zach Sobiech in his high school years. Zach was first diagnosed with bone cancer when he was 14, and as the movie begins, he was 17 and had gone through 20 rounds of chemotherapy.
Zach played by Fin Argus was shown to be very outgoing. Emitting a lot of positive vibes and had quite the humour.
The movie even started with him performing a song on behalf of his best friend, Sammy who was extremely shy to go on stage. The song had quite funny lyrics and performances from Zach but we could see right from there that Zach was someone full of confidence. Despite his condition, he seemed optimistic regardless.
He's finally getting to know his crush and on their date, he was rushed to the hospital where the news broke — cancer had spread to his lungs and he would most likely not make it to graduation.
How then would he spend the remaining precious moments of his life?
In anguish or self-pity? No!
He sets about it in several ways — he asked Amy out and she said "Yes" — and recorded some songs with best friend Sammy, one of which was Clouds. It got them signing a songwriting contract with IBM. Clouds became a worldwide sensation, getting radio airplay and topping iTunes charts.
This film is particularly perceptive on the issue of what it means to try to be "normal" under excruciatingly painful circumstances.
Casts
The film is emotionally packed and filled and I give credit to the wonderful actors for bringing such a story to life!
Fin Argus, Sabrina Carpenter, Madison Iseman amongst other actors did a terrific job in bringing out the best in all characters.
Zach's friendship with Sammy, complicated with unspoken feelings and fears, is more authentic and affecting, thanks in large part to Argus and Carpenter’s phenomenon acting, bringing every emotion to light.
Thoughts and opinions
I think this is my next best love/emotional movie 2nd only to The Fault In Our Stars.
From the story — to the acting — it was just superb!
There were so many nuances that made me love the movie even more. Like the scene where Zach's real-life best friend Sammy sang from the audience. I only got to find out after watching the film the first time and I get goosebumps every time I revisit that scene.
It was really sweet having some of the real-life characters playing a part in the film.
Cloud is a beautiful film to watch and if you haven't seen it, I urge you to. You won't regret it.
Most teenagers out there feel like their invincible. Not the superman kind of invincible, the kind of invincible that tricks you into thinking tomorrow might be a better day to start chasing your dreams.
"What some people take for granted, others are fighting for" - Zach Sobiech
What you are facing, knowing that your time is limited, is scary and awful. None of us is really ever promised tomorrow, we just assume it is going to be there.
You have one life to live, what are you going to do with it?
What do you want to do with your one, wild and precious life?
Thank you for reading!❤️
