I've wanted to watch Bates Motel for a long time, it was always a series that caught my attention when I was a little younger, I always saw it on TV and I thought it must be an excellent show for how long it lasted on the air, now that I've seen almost four seasons I can say that in part yes and in part no, while there are chapters that overflow with quality, more are the chapters where nothing happens and it becomes filler, filler at the level of a cheap soap opera. I couldn't finish the fourth season, I felt that the story doesn't advance enough to keep my interest in the show, the plot is supposed to be about how Norman Bates becomes the mythical killer of Psycho, but what we get sometimes depending on the season is boring subplots that don't contribute at all to the development of the characters. If you take out all the boring filler, surely in three seasons you could easily finish this story.
Desde hace mucho tiempo quise ver Bates Motel, siempre fue una serie que me llamó la atención cuando era un poco más pequeño, siempre veía que la pasaban en la televisión y pensé que debía de ser una excelente obra por lo que duró al aire, ahora que he visto casi cuatro temporadas puedo opinar que en parte sí y en parte no, mientras hay capítulos que desbordan calidad, más son los capítulos donde no pasa nada y convirtiéndose en relleno, relleno al nivel de una telenovela barata. No pude terminar la cuarta temporada, sentí que la historia no avanza lo suficiente para mantener mi interés en la obra, se supone que la trama trata de ver cómo Norman Bates se convierte en el asesino mítico de Psicosis, pero lo que obtenemos algunas veces dependiendo de la temporada subtramas aburridas y que no aportan en lo absoluto en el desarrollo de los personajes. Si le sacas todo el relleno aburrido, seguramente en tres temporadas fácilmente terminabas esta historia.

I found the first season very interesting, the proposal and the dynamics between each episode really kept you expectant and eager to see the next chapter, the only thing that made things move forward so quickly is that perhaps the resolution of some situations is somewhat weak, a pattern that we will see repeated as the seasons go by but in a worse way; these first episodes serve very well as an introduction to the characters, giving us enough context to understand what is to come. It also has a conclusion that will have left more than one person wanting more, if you watched the series when it was on the air. The problem really starts in the second season, when a lot of characters are introduced and end up in absolute nothingness, you see a lot of unnecessary interaction because in the end they all die (except the main characters) in a drug war.
La primera temporada me pareció muy interesante, la propuesta y la dinámica entre cada episodio de verdad te mantenía expectante y con ansías de ver el siguiente capítulo, lo único rápido de que las cosas avanzaran con tanta rapidez es que quizás la resolución de algunas situaciones es algo floja, patrón que veremos que se repite conforme pasan las temporadas pero de peor manera; estos primeros episodios sirven muy bien como introducción a los personajes, dándonos el contexto suficiente para entender lo que está por venir. Además que cuenta con una conclusión que a más de uno habrá dejado con las ganas, si vió la serie cuando estaba en emisión. El problema realmente comienza en la segunda temporada, cuando se presenta una gran cantidad de personajes que terminan en la absoluta nada, ves un montón de interacción innecesaria porque al final todos mueren (menos los protagonistas) en una guerra de drogas.

The whole drug thing is so absurd that you might think you're watching a series about it and not the evolution of a character and a disorder that sooner or later ends up turning him into a murderer. It wouldn't bother me so much if it were better planned, a resource that the series uses a lot is to magically resolve issues of great magnitude, in the first season it ends a white slave trade business that is surely quite big from what they mention, just by shooting a guy, with no apparent repercussions, in the second season the marijuana business ends by shooting the boss family of that business, so many characters and history that doesn't lead you to anything that end in a banal resolution. What I do have to admit is that the subplots get really interesting when Norman gets involved in them, which is the only time where it really helps with his development, like when he gets involved in the white slave trade or ends up in a buried hole because Dylan didn't keep a deal.
Todo el asunto de la droga es tan absurdo que puedes llegar a pensar que estás viendo una serie sobre eso y no la evolución de un personaje y un transtorno que tarde o temprano lo termina volviendo un asesino. No me molestaría tanto si estuviera mejor planteado, un recurso que usa mucho la serie es resolver por arte de magia asuntos de gran magnitud, en la primera temporada se termina un negocio de trata de blancas que seguramente es bastante grande por lo que mencionan, con solo dispararle a un sujeto, sin repercusiones aparentes, en la segunda temporada el negocio de la marihuana termina al dispararle a la familia jefe de ese negocio, tantos personajes y historia que no te lleva a nada que terminan en una resolución banal. Lo que sí tengo que admitir es que las tramas secundarias se vuelven realmente interesantes cuando Norman se ve involucrado en ellas, que es el único momento donde de verdad sí ayuda con su desarrollo, como cuando se entromete en el negocio de trata de blancas o termina en un hoyo enterrado porque Dylan no cumplió con un trato.

Season three is pretty good, I'd put it on the same level as season one. It has a fast-paced dynamic that makes the episodes extremely entertaining, as well as touching on one of the strongest points of the series, we see Norman gradually, episode by episode, reach the peak of his madness, you feel as he progresses a clear progression, which ends up exploding in the final episode, where he commits an act of homicide. The fourth season begins with a beastly pace, which would grab more than one, especially if you get to see the episode called "Goodnight, Mother", where it seems that Norman could kill his mother at any moment, with an impressive tension. The level drops quite a lot in the following chapters, becoming extremely slow and tedious, Norman loses a lot of protagonism when he is put in the psychiatric hospital, but the moments where he appears he shines too much.
La tercera temporada es bastante buena, la pondría al mismo nivel que la tempora uno. Tiene una dinámica rápida y que hace que los capítulos sean sumamente entretenidos, además de tocar uno de los puntos más fuertes de la serie, vemos a Norman llegar poco a poco, capítulo a capítulo a la cúspide de su locura, se siente conforme avanza una clara progresión, que termina explotando en el episodio final, donde se comete un acto de homicidio. La cuarta temporada empieza con un ritmo bestial, que atraparía a más de uno, más sí llegas a ver el capítulo llamado "Goodnight, Mother", donde parece que Norman pueda matar a su madre en cualquier momento, con una tensión impresionante. El nivel baja bastante en los siguientes capítulos, haciéndose sumamente lento y tedioso, Norman pierde bastante protagonismo cuando lo meten en el psiquiátrico, pero los momentos donde aparece se luce demasiado.

To be honest, I stopped at the 20th minute of episode 7 of the fourth season, I couldn't take it any more and my interest in continuing to watch it diminished completely. Someday I'll feel like making up for all the time I wasted watching 37 episodes of 50 minutes each, but today is not that day. To a certain extent I like how they show the development of Norman Bates, little by little we see how he transforms into the mythical killer that we all saw on the big screen or that the younger ones will recognise when they hear his name, the acting is extremely impeccable and it is something that attracts and excites me the most. What doesn't excite me and bothers me and bores me, is everything I mentioned before, I'm not saying it's a bad series but it has too much history and unnecessary information that doesn't contribute anything to the main objective of the series.
Para serles sincero, me quedé en el minuto 20 del capítulo 7 de la cuarta temporada, no soporté más y mi interés en seguir viendo disminuyó totalmente. Algún día me nacerán las ganas de recuperar todo el tiempo que perdí viendo 37 episodios de 50 minutos cada uno, pero hoy no es ese día. En cierta parte me gusta cómo van mostrando el desarrollo de Norman Bates, poco a poco vemos cómo se va transformando en el mítico asesino que todos vimos en la pantalla grande o que los más jóvenes reconocerán al oírlo nombrar, la actuación es sumamente impecable y es algo de lo que más me atrae y emociona. Lo que no me emociona y me molesta llegándome hasta aburrir, es todo lo que mencioné anteriormente, no digo que sea una mala serie sino que cuenta con demasiada historia e información innecesaria que no aporta nada al objetivo principal de la serie.
Yo comence a ver esta serie solo por saber quien sería su protagonista, desde que es un niño me ha gustado su trabajo, pero después no se que paso que no termine de verla. Gracias por mencionarla nuevamente, no sabía como avanzaría la historia, se ve que no se logro lo que se esperaba.
La serie es buena pero tiene muchas partes que no aporta nada a la historia, yo esperaré a que me vuelvan a dar ganas de verla para continuar viéndola. A mí también me gusta mucho el actor principal, es bastante bueno desde que apareció en la película de Willy Wonka.

Recuerdo muchas veces haber visto pocos segundos de Bates Motel cuando la daban en Universal, pero jamás pude ver un capítulo completo por no tener el tiempo. Me llamaba la atención la trama y el hecho de que el protagonista fuese actuado por Freddie Highmore, ya que es desde luego un excelente autor. No me imaginaría que sería bastante relleno sin sentido a partir de cierto punto en la serie, y bien es algo que me echa para atrás, quizás algún día le dé la oportunidad de ver al menos las primeras tres temporadas a ver qué tal.
La primera temporada te va a enganchar, la segunda tiene un nivel bastante decente, la tercera te va a volver a enganchar, ya vas a ver. Ya la cuarta en cierto punto se vuelve muy lenta, veo mucho despropósito pero haciendo esta reseña vi que según tiene un giro bastante interesante, habrá que ver haber qué tal.

What you've said here is a problem that I have with a lot of series out there. The shows don't appear as though they were ever designed to have a beginning a middle and an end but rather to just keep going until the audience loses interest, which they did with this one
Here are the viewers by season and as you can see fewer and fewer people actually cared anymore and I think that this is because they felt like you and I did: The story wasn't progressing, it was just being drawn out for as long as possible.
Yes, I guess since the first season was a success, they wanted to squeeze as much money out of the series as possible. I didn't know that about the stats, it's quite interesting and reinforces what I say, too many things without relevance ends up tiring people.
