ENGAGE Token Distribution Stats - Hive

in LeoFinance4 years ago

The plan was to do one of these posts quarterly but then all hell broke loose, and I forgot. 370 days later than the first (peakd, hive.blog), a look at how ENGAGE has been distributed on Hive.

The original idea I had in mind, although perhaps never explained fully, was to give smaller accounts the opportunity to reward a comment they liked (on any post) with a small vote, which would promote that comment up the list of replies. Since there were no rules and very little guidance, it has also been somewhat of a social experiment to see if the token would be spread far and wide, and not just dished out to an alt or in a game of swaps.

Also, the token was introduced as a 'vanity' token, holding little to no value, but the value has perhaps come with the small vote trail (HP and tribe tokens) that has been following along for a while now.

With distribution at 750,000 of 1 million, at some point this year there will be no more ENGAGE tokens to issue but that gives me a little time to think of a reason why people would want to hold them - at least 1001 anyway. Anyway, to the numbers/charts, which cover dates 20th March 2020 to today.

Since Hive began in March 2020, @misterengagement has made 20336 comments and has replied to comments in 492 different categories. Here are the most popular categories:

I am quite surprised to see 'I am alive challenge' at the top, but happy with the mix between tribes ( leofinance, natural medicine, actifit, gems(?) ) and communities created which do not have a token associated. My bracketed list could be incorrect but I don't think there are more than 5/6 tribes in the first 20. The top 20 are all either tribes or communities (I just made the list more readable as they all started 'hive-'), no room in the top 20 for the tag 'hive' - good!

The next chart shows the number of votes issued each week by @misterengagement, starting from mid-may when the bot was brought back to live on Hive by @holger80.

Not really sure what happened at the beginning of January (maybe offline bot or hangovers) but the general trend is up, up, up.

The chart below shows how many tokens the top 20 issuers have sent out. There has been no limit to how many tokens an account can issue each day, as long as @misterengagement is holding ENGAGE (Sometimes I forget to reload before the account runs out).

The next chart shows the top 20 receivers of ENGAGE.

Top account holds 481 ENGAGE at this moment 👍

And finally, the most prestigious chart to be on. Top 20 accounts who issued ENGAGE to the most unique accounts.

Bravo @galenkp, master engager and token distributor 🏆

ENGAGE probably hasn't encouraged engagement much at all, but it would have been interesting to see the account loaded up with millions of HP and a bunch of Tribe tokens, allowing only the top 5 in the final chart to issue each day.

Anyway, enough dreaming, cheers :)

Sort:

I am disappointed in the obvious rapage that is going on - kills the fun.

Though, I would like to thank the vote followers and @mmmmkkkk311 for adding some addition HP value too.

I wouldn't mind being part of that experiment :)

Yeah, perhaps a misunderstanding or lack of awareness - I've not really offered much guidance.

mmmmkkkk311 has been a good sport, both with trailing and giving misterengagement a HP boost when he was being over-worked.

I wonder if people were aware of an account which could give them a vote worth a decent post on a comment, engagement would increase across the board? There would still be some just doing it anyway, but as we've seen on leo, people are trying to put a decent reply in more often.

I would assume that it isn't by accident - but that could be because I have been on Hive for so long, I trust very few :D

I think it is part of the reason people tend to give me decent replies as I know the topics and post lengths set a barrier for many. I don't see it as paying for comments though, it is for rewarding for consuming and I think that some people who don't post much but do spend time commenting, should be rewarded a bit when possible.

Let's see if my baby account will follow.

I think there is a general 'reward every comment on my post/s' thing going on, and jlufer does like a comment or two.

It would be great to see people issuing on the posts of others - I need a chart for that :)

I tried to be diplomatic about the bad behaviour; You smack it in the face with a backhander.

Now I want to edit my comment! 😁

lols - I think the account has been around long enough to know better.

G-dog

T-dog

You be brutal man. Lol.

It's a sport.

A great spectator sport...Socially distanced and covid-approved reduced crowd numbers of course.

These are interesting stats Asher and I'm pleased to see where I sit on that last chart...The distribution to the most unique accounts. That's what it's all about in my opinion...Engagement and encouragement.

Spreading them only within a tight circle is sort of missing the mark by a country mile in my opinion. Alas, it happens with voting too as we know right? The next thing may be people sending them to their own alt accounts! 🤪 🙄

Anyway, I like these stats posts you do as the blockchain reveals its secrets through them, clears away the mystique and brings clarity.

Whilst ENGAGE may not have a huge value per se, it's been fun to hand them out and is nice to receive them, if only for the emotional boost.

Nice work stats-meister.

Yep, far and wide!

The next thing may be people sending them to their own alt accounts!

We had a case of this in the past but all good now, I think.

Whilst ENGAGE may not have a huge value per se, it's been fun to hand them out and is nice to receive them, if only for the emotional boost.

Cheers :D An emotional boost, I like it. I have the account name on watch with Gina, and although I don't login to reply (misterengagement rarely engages! 😳), there are replies each day giving thanks.

2.5 hours for this one, I need to become more efficient!

Oh that's cool people actually send thank you messages. I like that. Shows respect and gratitude.

2.5 hours? You need a Red Bull or two...It gives you wiings, allegedly. I get it though, mine often take a while; Over 3 hours for that Milford one I did a few days ago. 😁 Still, it's about enjoyment, a hobby for me, so I do it.

Me likey your stats posts though.

Cheers dude, I did enjoy checking Milford Sound (Fjord) out :)

No Redbull for me, recently cut my coffee intake and sleep has improved no end. In fact, I've not had a redbull since Uni days where it was served out of a (hopefully) clean bin with voddy already mixed. Carnage!

Lol, yeah it's evil shit. Although I had one when we visited Hangar 7 in Salzburg. Was cool.

The coffee thing. I've been sleeping terribly lately, I mean really badly, and have been feeling shit. I've got stuff on my mind, granted, but I'm thinking of cutting coffee our altogether to see if it helps. You inspired me to start today.

#reformedcoffeedrinker

I had to think about the last one , what's a unique account 🤔

Thanks for the summary. I may not do that much engagement, but I do try!!!

It is, how many different accounts an account in that chart has given ENGAGE to. So you are doing pretty good :D

A unique account is one that is creative and expressive, sensitive and loving - a special snowflake. ;D

just a different account - so Galen has voted on almost 450 different individiual accounts at least once.

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I still forget, and have not developed the habit as of yet, but still working on it and a big thanks to both Taraz and Galen for all the support via the tokens. Also I have seen a few comment on how it is a vanity token, yet it does have value, I know cause I have sold some of them trying to boost my HP or to buy other tokens.

They will all be gone by the time you get into the swing of things :)

What? You have sold!? :D Fair enough!

I never sold below 1001, I like giving them when I can remember, but I only remember for two or three days after you make a reminder post.

I second Mr T's comment. When you see the status laid bare you can see that there is a bit of unsportsmanlike rapage going on. To think that I am actually paranoid of over using it in case it looks like I am taking advantage. Gaaar.

Still, it is a great little experiment, adds something beyond just a vote even if iamalivev is taking the fucking piss :0D

lolol :)

Yep, experimental stuff here, anything can happen!

I think that if you issued the rest of ENGAGE, it wouldn't look like you were taking the piss :)

This is a really cool chart and I'm a little surprised that the I am Alive folks are using it so wildly lol that was a big shock to me..

Good to see the wide array of different folks using it! I'm interested in how much the mister engagement account has grown through the curation rewards of the effort. Negligible?

Yeah, I think it's just the community owner :)

I'm interested in how much the mister engagement account has grown through the curation rewards of the effort. Negligible?

Correct.

I didn't load up more than basic HP in the hope others would trail. Anyway, the account wasn't there to make me any STEEM/HIVE, although with posts on the subject I've probably earned my 100 STEEM + 100 HIVE back.

Not bad, at some point I'll add an alt to the mix on the trail of the votes! I've been buying up lots of hive engine tokens so I'll get to a point where I can add some extra tribe token trails to it. I'm thinking SPACO, a spanish dedicated community.

There has been no limit to how many tokens an account can issue each day

I could have sworn I read somewhere that there was a daily limit. I thought it was 100 and I'm sure I had a message last week that said I'd reached my limit or something similar. Wrong again! 😂

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

😂

100 is the max for a comment, but you can keep going until misterengagement has ran out. I'm surprised no-one has tested this yet!

you can keep going until misterengagement has ran out

Maybe that was the message I got last week then. 😁

Testing, testing, 1 2 3

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

I just stumbled across this project recently when someone rewarded me with engage tokens. I thought it was so cool I bought some so I could hand them out. I'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Cool, thanks :)

Well it's 3/4 of the way through being issued but we'll see what happens when they are all out in the wild.

Yeah I'm interested to see what people do. They gave it value so I'm sure it'll evolve again.

Galen is mister Engage, I can still remember when I wanted to spread Engage tokens but had none hahahah hilarious. G. is a generous person, no wonder he is nr. 1 with this

I should hand over the account keys to him :)

Being able to call the votes to reward engagement without the token would still be valuable in my opinion, once the available supply runs out.

Yes I think it will continue, perhaps with update message and code. I'd like to be able to add some proper HP to the account, 1000 is ok but 100000000000 would be better :D

Lol, billions would be better indeed. Maybe a cap of some kind will be needed, like how the amount of BEER determines how many you can hand out.

That is really nice project and I think I am going to keep all my ENGAGE. (I have now more than 1001)

Great, I'm glad you have over 1001 and can distribute :)

A naive question, is there any particular way to earn this token? I mean do we have to join a Community, include a hashtag in the post? Is there any guide for new users. Haven't used Hive for a few months and I feel lost with all the new features. @abh12345
