Who would have thought that Canada would have such an impact on Bitcoin lately and I'm not referring to Canada's already approved Bitcoin ETF, on the contrary, I'm pointing at the country's involuntary push for Bitcoin as a currency of exchange.
I know, I know, Bitcoin's nature as a currency of exchange is probably the least used one by all the Bitcoiners we have around the world.
What happens in Canada right now, though, with truckers protesting against INHUMAN COVID MANDATES is a pure example of too much centralized power given too strong control over the people and also a lot of ignorance and obedience coming from the majority not doing anything against these mandates. There should be literally everyone in the streets right now over there.
Trudeau is worse than a communist leader, more dangerous imo than Putin is. At least Putin hasn't start any way with Ukraine, but Trudeau is in a obvious war with the country's citizens. The government is trying by any means to freeze donations coming in millions for the truckers and to "free Ottawa of the truckers".
Ever since Trudeau started his communist tries of stopping this PEACEFUL PROTEST, seems that Bitcoiners have become allies with protesters and according to what I read recently it seems that close to one million dollars in Bitcoin has been donated to these freedom heroes so far.
There's this video of Bitcoin Magazine that I watched lately and imo it is a pure example of what Bitcoin has been designed for. The trucker that was having a vlog, from his truck, was interrupted by someone who came at the window of the truck and handed him an envelope with a Bitcoin address and its keys and $8,000 worth of Bitcoin.
It was some sort of an organizer of the protest not just some random donor and the funds came from donors all around the world, most of them seems to be coming from the US.
THAT'S DISRUPTION, the way I see it. When centralized governance powers are trying by all means to suffocate freedom and its fighters and Bitcoin becomes THE ALTERNATIVE CURRENCY we definitely have a case of mass adoption for this tech. I will not overlook what happens in El Salvador, but on the global scale, Canada has and will always have much more impact in the world than El Salvador does.
Canada's "Involuntary Push" Towards Mass Adoption for Bitcoin AS A CURRENCY Should Not Be Ignored. This should be all over the news. We now have a situation where individuals in one country are basically circumventing their corrupt government means of stopping their protest by using bitcoin.
What else can you wish from this thing? It's probably one of the most significant events pushing Bitcoin to mass adoption that has happened in the past few months. At least that's the way I see it... But, what do you think, is the use of Bitcoin in Canada by these protesters going to impact the mass adoption process of Bitcoin as a currency or is it just gonna slide?
Thanks for attention,
Adrian

Today, my bank will only allow me to withdraw a maximum $500 CAD via ATM only, sounds like a soft BANK RUN! So my protest will take the form of withdrawing my Max allowable at the ATM everyday.
Hug a Trucker!

Hitting the Bank where it hurts.
In my opinion bitcoin's cap makes it improbable to be used as a currency at a large scale. What it can be is a mean of resistance against centralized control and pressures, and we can see this at play with what's going on in Canada. Other than that, the store of value and usage as collateral are the most likely use cases for bitcoin.
True. It can act as an example for similar situations in the future where protesters will probably use XMR or even DOGE.

Amazing to witness bitcoin being used to fight oppression done by the government. That's why bitcoin was made - to put power back in the hands of the people.

That's what it has been designed for.

BTC is only a start. If they can accept BTC - they can accept others. They can involve stablecoins & ultimately XMR or just Dash, Zcash, PIVX etc. Best is yet to come :)

For sure.

I don't really think it will have any effect on the adoption process but I do think more people will open up to it. It's opened up to people how unreliable banks and the government are.

It's a big step in the right direction!

Thanks for this. I really needed a glimmer of hope and a fighting chance after the calamities yesterday (our local protest was dispersed, and the Convoy GiveSendGo donor data was leaked).
My only worry is - how will they use this bitcoin? Would they say, go to a store that supports them and offer to pay in bitcoin? This could in theory work, as there is now incentive to avoid the "easy" cash or credit option.
However, it means there's another barrier to access - most stores likely aren't as open-minded about using crypto (I can't blame them, either) as a payment option. Never mind that many people simply aren't tech-savvy enough to figure out how the hell they're supposed to work with it.
Anyway, this gives me hope - but realistically it's not a silver bullet. Let's see if the tide turns...
