The ones paying $70 million for Beeple's digital artwork haven't actually paid for a JPEG but rather for 15 years of work and dedication. Not any jpeg could earn that much.

I agree with the aspect that these people are buying someones effort which is put into a artwork,but if there was a connection with real world for example it would be more interactive between they buyer and the art.For example physical art which through qr codes exist on blockchain,like buying cryptocurrency from a crypto atm.
