Discovering Tenerife: A 10-Day Adventure

Tenerife, the largest of Spain's Canary Islands, is a picturesque destination in the Atlantic Ocean, just a stone's throw from the Moroccan coast. Blessed with excellent year-round weather, it boasts an average temperature of around 22 degrees Celsius. Known for its stunning landscapes, the island is dominated by the towering Mount Teide, a volcano that serves as a central feature of the island's diverse terrain. From hot, arid conditions in the south to lush forests in the north, Tenerife is an all-encompassing paradise for travelers.

Part 2/9:

This island offers not only beauty but also an extensive network for exploring it, including two airports and a well-maintained highway linking its contrasting geographical features. A personal rental car is highly recommended for tourists planning to delve deeper into the island's hidden gems, offering the freedom to stop for photo opportunities and enjoy spontaneous adventures.

Accommodation: Finding Your Home Away From Home

Part 3/9:

Tenerife caters to all types of visitors with accommodations that span a wide range of budgets. While the southern part of the island, known for its beach resorts and nightlife, may appeal to party-goers, the northern side offers a quieter atmosphere with a touch of local culture. During our stay, we opted for an Airbnb in the charming village of Los Gigantes, known for its massive cliffs reaching over 500 meters high. Here, we enjoyed a cozy living space at a reasonable rate of €80 per night, complete with stunning views of the cliffs and natural pools — perfect for relaxed evenings after our daily excursions.

Attractions: The Highlights of Tenerife

Part 4/9:

Tenerife is rich with attractions that require more than ten days to explore fully. We kicked off our journey with an enchanting visit to the cliffs of Los Gigantes, where breathtaking views can be admired from various viewpoints or along a lovely promenade leading to Playa del Arena, a nearby beach. For swimming, we discovered that the island's natural pools, formed by volcanic rocks, provided safer swimming conditions compared to regular beaches.

Part 5/9:

Visiting Mount Teide National Park was a highlight, with its otherworldly volcanic scenery making every corner Instagram-worthy. A leisurely drive through the park allows visitors to soak in the sights, and for those wanting to escape the crowds, multiple hiking trails are available, catering to a range of skill levels. Our trek to the peak of Alto de Guajara offered stunning views and a glimpse of the starry sky, virtually unpolluted by city lights.

Snorkeling and Adventures at Sea

Part 6/9:

Adventuring out into the ocean is a must-do in Tenerife. We embarked on a snorkeling trip, venturing into the waters near Playa de las Americas to interact with sea turtles. The thrill of diving with these magnificent creatures was an unforgettable experience, showcasing the incredible marine life Tenerife has to offer.

Exploring Local Culture: Banana Plantations and Water Parks

Our exploration continued with a visit to a banana plantation, Finca Las Margaritas, where we learned about Tenerife's banana industry. This educational tour, which cost only €10, offered insight into the production process, concluding with a tasting of homemade banana wine.

Part 7/9:

Another highlight was Siam Park, one of Europe's largest water parks. While it drew crowds and featured high prices, it also promised an exhilarating day filled with thrilling rides and fun. Despite the fun, many find that the tranquility of natural pools suits them better.

Nature's Marvels: The Caves of Winds and Dramatic Landscapes

We ventured further to the Caves of Winds, where tourists can explore a portion of the volcanic tunnel system. The tour, lasting about two hours, included a steep hike to the cave entrance, followed by a thrilling journey underground. Afterward, we caught sight of the ancient Drago Milenario, a legendary 16-meter dragon tree believed to be over a thousand years old.

Part 8/9:

Our travels took us to Masca, a hidden village surrounded by towering cliffs, where we soaked in the enchanting atmosphere, said to have been a pirate hiding spot. Although we couldn't hike down to the ocean this time, the vibes alone made the trip worthwhile.

Forest Retreats: Hiking in Anaga Nature Reserve

For those seeking lush greenery, the Anaga Nature Reserve delivers a dramatic contrast to the southern beaches. We embarked on the Path of Senses, a serene wooden pathway that stimulated all senses with its fragrant flora and captivating sounds. We capped off our journey with a hike leading to stunning coastal cliffs, emphasizing the island’s diversity and natural beauty.
