A CPU ahead of its time: The Pentium Pro
The Pentium Pro was a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Pentium, with its integrated level two cache, dual integer pipelines, and 64-bit data bus. Released in 1995, it was intended to replace the original Pentium but was limited to server and high-end desktop markets due to low yields and high prices. The CPU's unique design, with the level two cache inside the CPU package, made it larger than its predecessor and pushed Intel's manufacturing technology to its limits.
