Our visit to the Castelo de Algoso, a medieval castle with over 800 years of history, set the stage for our historical explorations. The region, known as Terra Quente or Hot Land, is notable for its arid climate favoring extensive olive plantations. We dipped into the serene waters of a nearby artificial lake, where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch before continuing our adventure on winding country roads.
A Glimpse into the Past: Castles and Natural Parks
Early morning took us to the quaint village of Gimonde, featuring an ancient Roman bridge and serving as a gateway to Montesinho Natural Park. As we traversed the park, the landscape transformed from flourishing woods to rugged shrublands. Hiking proved rewarding, with granite rock formations providing stunning views.
