As we ventured further, we reached the northern coast, arriving at Porto, the city known for its rich history and breathtaking architecture. A boat tour along the Douro River offered a perfect perspective of the city’s renowned bridges and historic architecture, before we journeyed southward to the famed surfing destination of Nazaré. The monstrous waves here are a phenomenon, drawing brave surfers to test their limits in nature’s fury.
The Allure of Berlenga Island
Switching to a boat, we crossed to Berlenga Island, revered for its rugged coastline and rare pink granite formations. The remains of the Fort of the Berlengas, a historic reminder of past battles, offered a glimpse into the island’s storied history, now preserved within a nature reserve.
