Part 5/8:
A significant part of Normandy’s history is tied to World War II, and visiting the D-Day beaches was both profound and moving. The Allies landed on this coastline on June 6, 1944, marking the beginning of the liberation of France and Europe.
One of the most famous sites is Omaha Beach. Despite its serene beauty today, it served as a heavily defended landing zone and resulted in tremendous casualties. A visit to the American Cemetery nearby, with its perfectly aligned rows of white marble graves, offered a solemn tribute to those who fought.
I also explored Utah Beach and Pointe du Hoc, noting the palpable history that lingered in the air—bunkers lined the landscape, and remnants of the conflict are still visible.
