As per the laws governing soccer, specifically Law 9, the ball remains "in play" when it rebounds off the referee. This peculiar rule offered Brian Sabol the perfect loophole. Nevertheless, he took it a step further, opting to score a goal during the game. The final score ended up being a staggering 22 to 1, with Brian’s impromptu goal accounting for half of the losing team's points!
While it might have been a hilarious moment for the audience, it painted a rather patronizing picture for the losing team. Though humor was in the air, one couldn't help but wonder what the players felt: Did they see it as an entertaining escapade? Or, perhaps, as an insult to their efforts on the field?
