This temporary fighting withdrawal strategy enabled Ukrainian forces to inflict heavy casualties on Russian assault formations while managing their ammunition usage judiciously. Gradually falling back to positions west of Rosula allowed Ukrainian troops to deplete the offensive capability of Russian forces while maintaining a fortified stance.
Although some territory was lost during this withdrawal, the decision to retreat from logistically unsustainable frontlines created an impression of vulnerability. This prompted Russian command to redirect their focus toward the nearby village of Nova Kar, unaware of the significant losses they had inflicted upon themselves.
