As the centuries progressed, political power in the region started to centralize, particularly in an area known as Himing, which became a significant trading partner for Rome. From Scandinavia, Rome imported various goods, including leather, textiles, feathers, and, in the dark underbelly of trade, slaves.

While Romans grasped that Scandinavia existed, they largely dismissed it as fundamentally inhospitable due to its harsh, cold climate. Thus, their focus remained mainly on trading and minimal engagement with this northern land.
