One may wonder how infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, would adapt to this surreal change. Surprisingly, structures might withstand the gradual expansion better than expected. To illustrate this concept, consider tying a rope tightly around the Earth’s circumference. Raising the rope just 1 meter would require adding approximately 6 meters in length. As the Earth expands, so too does its circumference—by roughly 5.4 km after one day of expansion. This change, measuring about 0.01%, is within the bounds of tolerance for most constructions and would not appear to precipitate immediate catastrophic failures.
