In 1929, the U.S. Navy embarked on an ambitious project that would change the landscape of naval aviation—the construction of the world's first flying aircraft carrier. This enormous machine, expected to measure the size of three city blocks, was envisioned to carry up to 100 men, allowing naval operations thousands of feet above the ground.
