By late 2023, following a series of successful offensive campaigns, such as Operation 1027, the resistance movements began achieving significant territorial gains against the Tatmadaw. Anxiously watching their forces lose control, military personnel began to defect or abandon their posts, adding to the momentum of the uprisings.
The rebels began forming new alliances with previously neutral or even pro-government factions, creating a broader coalition against the military regime. At the same time, the Tatmadaw struggled to maintain adequate troop morale, leading to an increase in desertions and surrenders amidst growing opposition.
