Part 2/9:
Founded in 2007, Die Linke has much deeper roots as the political successor to the Socialist Unity Party, which governed East Germany before reunification in 1990. Traditionally, the party has found its strongest support in the eastern regions of Germany, appealing to those who felt neglected in the wake of economic transitions. Over the years, however, Die Linke has seen its influence wane, particularly in the face of competition from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) during the 2010s.
