Frustratingly, NATO's perspective seems out of step with the realities on the ground. They continue to believe that success hinges on complex combined arms operations, which require highly trained personnel and vast communication networks. However, the operational environment in Ukraine poses significant barriers to such strategies. The prevalence of drones and mines limits freedom of maneuver, thereby negating the foundational principles that NATO’s doctrine relies upon.
NATO's insistence on combined arms tactics overlooks the fact that the ability to maneuver and surprise the enemy has been severely compromised. Continuous drone surveillance of key areas has fundamentally altered both sides' operational capabilities, making traditional flanking maneuvers increasingly challenging.
