The history of Rhodesia is deeply intertwined with the legacy of its chief architect, Cecil Rhodes. To understand Rhodesia's tumultuous past, one must briefly examine who Rhodes was—a British mining tycoon in the late 19th century, known for his imperialist endeavors in Africa. Rhodes founded the British South Africa Company and advocated for British imperialism, which set the stage for the establishment of Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.
