However, functional issues arose when users struggled to grasp the layout quickly. Distances between stations could mislead travelers about the actual journey duration, and understanding specific routes required close scrutiny. Moreover, the introduction of a "frequency stroke" was intended to indicate how often a line ran, but it inadvertently created further confusion among users regarding travel times.
The New Design Philosophy
With user feedback in mind, the designer outlined a plan for the new diagram:
Incorporate all lines: Every transport method should be clearly represented to provide a complete view of service patterns.
Maintain recognizability: Using original colors helped avoid confusion while keeping the diagram user-friendly.
