His draconian measures, including increased grain taxes during droughts, proved too extreme for the locals. This discontent culminated in a daring scheme: some peasant rebels concealed themselves within grain sacks destined for the castle, using this ruse to infiltrate and launch a surprise revolt, resulting in the death of the count and the liberation of the land from feudal tyranny.
