The upcoming budget is critical, as it represents the first significant fiscal document under the coalition government, known as the Government of National Unity (GNU). This budget must be viewed in the context of shared responsibility among various political factions, including the African National Congress (ANC), the Democratic Alliance (DA), the Freedom Front Plus (FF+), and others.
While the marketing angle of the GNU promised improved fiscal management, evidence suggests that business-friendly policies have not emerged. Instead, the government appears to have become even less supportive of business interests as significant expenditures like the National Health Insurance begin to mount.
