Confrontation with China
In April 2024, a tense standoff occurred at Sabina Shoal, where Chinese ships blockaded a Philippine vessel, leading to dangerous encounters. Following another incident in June, tensions soared as the Philippines attempted to resupply its garrison at Second Thomas Shoal, only to be met with dangerous aggression from the Chinese Coast Guard.
