After the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, the Taliban retreated and reorganized within Pakistan, receiving support from the Pakistani intelligence community. However, the emergence of the TTP as a distinct entity and its subsequent evolution into a formidable insurgent group has created a rift. Unlike the Afghan Taliban, the TTP is focused on enacting Sharia law within Pakistan and has turned against the government it once aligned itself with, marking a significant shift in loyalties.
