Even as Friedrich Merz of the CDU assumes a leadership role, avoiding partnerships with the AfD remains a contentious topic among the other parties.
This particular moment in Germany's political landscape is being called a "last chance election." If the newly formed government fails to stabilize the economy or address the rising polarization, the potential for extremist parties gaining more traction increases significantly.
