The Weathermen's origins trace back to 1969 when internal divisions within the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) led to the formation of a faction advocating radical militancy. As the Vietnam War ramped up and the United States entrenched itself further in global conflicts, these students contended that peaceful protests were no longer sufficient. They broke away from SDS, creating an anti-imperialist movement aimed at revolutionary change.
