In the DRC, the assassination of Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba, orchestrated by the CIA, reflects another chapter in the tale of U.S. interference. Following his assassination, Mobutu Sese Seko, who received significant U.S. aid, turned into a dictator while his country languished under corruption and economic decline.
