Arriving in Dalan, curiosity led the traveler to explore an area dubbed as “abandoned.” What was supposed to be a ghost town turned out to have lingering signs of life, with a mix of dilapidated structures and a few residents who still called this place home. Ironically, the traveler commented on the relative safety and charm of this place, contrasting it with dismal views held about less-structured areas elsewhere.
Yet, the visit to these abandoned sites illustrated a broader narrative in China about urban development and the remnants of ghost cities built during rapid economic growth periods.
