Throughout their journey, Allied travelers were subject to stringent identity checks at Soviet checkpoints, designated Alpha and Bravo. The video guide underscored the vital importance of adhering to the protocols; any mishap could result in dire consequences. If one found themselves stranded for more than five hours, Royal Military Police (RMP) personnel would initiate a search operation.
The guide’s first stern reminder was clear: do not engage with East German police. This rule was essential in maintaining safety and ensuring that wounded personnel were not forcibly removed by Soviet or East German ambulances unless absolutely critical.
