Despite the dire projections, it is essential to recognize that recovery, while complex, is not impossible. A radical shift in societal values, economic incentives, and family policies could stem the tide; however, these solutions require immediate government intervention and public willingness. Unfortunately, the prevalent sentiments of workaholism, economic pressures, and cultural norms have fostered a climate where many South Koreans are opting out of parenthood.
A rapid increase in births, albeit an optimistic scenario, would not suffice to return to a balanced demographic structure by 2060. Even under these ideal conditions, South Korea would remain at a critical junction, essentially managing an irreversible bottleneck of demographic decline.
